Rodriguez also produced with Elizabeth Avellan and Guillermo Navarro and was the editor of the film. The film was released in United States theaters on March 30, 2001 and on VHS and DVD on September 28, 2001.


Original, entertaining, and fun. Unfortunately, it spawned two awful films. But, still... it was good.

Wonderful little surprise, that is unfortunately raped by the sequel. Definitely a movie I'll share with my family if/when I ever get one. B

The first entry in the very mediocre Robert Rodriguez series is actually more or less tolerable. The movie is way too childish for its own good, but the cool gadgets and the always-cool Danny Trejo make up for that. The kids' acting is rather sub-par, but I didn't expect any better anyway. The action bits are neat, but at some points, the movie is simply too dumbed down.
