The Rescuers
The RescuersQuote: The Rescuers is a 1977 American animated feature produced by Walt Disney Productions and first released on June 22, 1977. The 23rd film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, the film is about the Rescue Aid Society, an international mouse organization headquartered in New York and shadowing the United Nations, dedicated to helping abduction victims around the world at large. Two of these mice, jittery janitor Bernard (Bob Newhart) and his co-agent, the elegant Miss Bianca (Eva Gabor), set out to rescue Penny (Michelle Stacy), an orphan girl being held prisoner in the Devil's Bayou by treasure huntress Madame Medusa (Geraldine Page).
The film is based on a series of books by Margery Sharp, most notably The Rescuers and Miss Bianca. Due to the film's success, a sequel entitled The Rescuers Down Under was released in 1990.

A film that is often overlooked, which is sad.

Re: The Rescuers
My favorite Disney film of the 60's and 70's, after the unreachable 101 Dalmatians. The "faith" stuff is the only thing I don't like about it, everything else works almost perfectly. Who Will Rescue Me and Tomorrow is Another Day deserved an Oscar, 10 times better than the Lion King songs. Great characters, Medusa above all. A-

Decent, but I think the second one is better.

Eh. A weak offering in a time when Disney was churning out poor quality. The sequel is indeed much better.

Re: The Rescuers
I liked the girl mouse and the gators? Oh and the weepy love theme.
But yeah, that's all I remember.

Re: The Rescuers
This suffers from tonal inconsistency. The stuff with the villain and the girl is very dark and mature, but the stuff with the mice is very childish. Overall a decent film that borrows a bit too much from 101 Dalmatians in the villain department. Though they are the first genuinely threatening villains since 101 Dalmatians. And the soundtrack has to be Disney’s most dated. It’s sickeningly schmaltzy.

Re: The Rescuers
The Rescuers is a good watch for most of its run time. Its not anything special, but the concept is wholesome and the mice are fun to hang out with.
I lost interest once they get to Louisiana though, mostly because Medusa is just a boring villain and she gets a lot of time in this stretch. They were like hey let's combine Cruelle Deville and Captain Hook and see what happens. Well what happened is somebody who holds maybe 1/100 of the charisma of those two.
So the overall movie is a B-/C+
Medusa is a D- villain.
