 Some News On HULK II..
http://www.superherohype.com/news/hulknews.php?id=2425
It appears that the HULK in the next movie will be smaller than what you saw him in the 1st film which was around 12-15 feet tall.. Personally, I don't care what anyone says, if you read the Marvel Ultimate HULK Comics, he's that large in them and it works but I guess enough people bitched about it enough and now the studio has backed down and made him smaller.. It's amazing what lack of knowledge some people have in the comics when it comes to the HULK along with peer pressure and what that can do for you..

Why are they even making a sequel? It's going to be one of the biggest flops of the year, no doubt about that.

I think The HULK got a bad shake in the beginning with all the piracy in stealing an unfinshed workprint and passing it off as the finished version, plus poor marketing also hurt this movie the most... Being an avid reader of the comic growing up, I think Ang Lee's version was the closest and most faithful version of the character in how the HULK REALLY was VS the Campy TV show with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno of the 70's.. That's another thing: 95% of most moviegoers at some point when the mere mention of this movie was being made inquired as to whether Lou Ferrigno would be the HULK like in the TV series and they were not prepared for an all CGI HULK and the stuff he did which was accurate in accordance with the comics.. Nevertheless, I think a sequel has just as good a chance at being good just as much as BATMAN BEGINS or The Fantastic Four or even Elektra.. Who knows??

The marketing for The Hulk was quite good. And I don't believe for one second that piracy had that big of an effect on its box office. It wasn't a good movie. People were expecting a good comic book movie, and this was not at all. Too melodramtic, and serious for its own good. Ang Lee did a terrible job with this adaption, and if there is a sequel its going to be a huge disappointment for Universal, and won't even make $100 million at the box office. Even the action sequences in The Hulk are boring, and the CGI seemed unfinished and weak. Just my opinion, please don't attack me for having one.

Hulk's problems had nothing to do with him being too big. I loved the movie, but it's easy to see why so many people didn't.

Oh I'm gonna attack you cause that CGI and the closeup shots of his face and the magnification of the pores in his skin was some of the BEST CGI ever done for a comicbook character like this.. I'll admit some of the shots could've used some tweeking like the part where he was tumbling down the Sand Dune or delete them altogether, but the CGI was damn good for as much shit as this film took.. That's not just an opinion, that is a FACT..

From what i remeber the Marketing over here was one of the biggest of the summer, and i very much doubt the 'piracy' affected this, as it got a huge opening, it was the WOM that killed this movie with you can see taking affect during the first 3-days. Also if you look internationally, it performed the same, ie. In UK it opened to 6m and ended up with 12m. It had an average weekend drop of 73%. Just over 2-multiplier, blockbusters usually have about 4x.
Really the sequal should also perform poorly, but i think it wont do as harshly as the first. In fact, BO wise i think there will be a major improvement, which will reflect on quality.

A sequel is really not needed. The first one was complete garbage.

NO...war od the worlds looks fantastic. But Hulk does not need a sequel...you could tell that from the horrendous 2nd weekend drop.
I think they should just leave it alone. Thats all

Well, this is one movie I won't be seeing. Choosing to see the horrendous The Hulk at almost midnight was a very bad deicision.

The first one was brilliant, and hopefully for second they'll take the same route.
Ang Lee and Eric Bana returns, right?

The First one was decent,I would like to see lee give it another shot.
One of the problems with the first film is that the first hour is so slow,And With the exception of Bana other talented actors like connely,Nolte and sam elliott were wasted.

I would go see a sequel,t eh firs tone had some good points (Eric Bana, Jennifer COnnelly, CGi Hulk) and some bad points (Slow pace, the terrible ending with Banner's father, Lee obseesion with moss on tree bark).

I guess that means The Hulk will be taking the budget down with his size. If not, where will they ever make a profit?

It could be done cheaper since they already have the cgi model already established from the first movie. The only budget constraint would be to configure and replicate the cgi model for whoever the next villian in the movie would be.

It won't do well. The first one exploded in its opening weekend because of hype. Although WOM was bad, it WAS the summer movie of '03 besides from Reloaded (of course). It was hugely anticipated, it had cross-over appeal, and it brought in all demographics. The merchandise and the posters all brought in the kids, where as the trailers, the comic book, the name, the actors, and the director tended to bring in everyone else.
The second one, however, needs to make up for the fact that the first was so dang bad reception-wise (I still haven't seen it). As I said in the Matrix thread, The Hulk is one of those movies, along with Matrix Revolutions, that is among the worst in terms of WOM. You can't just expect people to be sympathetic and waste their money opening weekend on Hulk 2, especially if they didn't like the first. That's almost too much to ask (and, if you do think it'll have a massive opening frame, you think too highly of the human race, as, we don't give MANY second chances).
Lara Croft II might of been a better movie, as Star Wars II (Attack of the Clones) might of, but both had sharp declines in box-office take. Generally, this is the pattern for sequels. But, when the first receives mediocre-bad word of mouth, most view the sequel as unnecessary. And, again, this would hit ANY Hulk sequel.

Boooo! I hope not! The first one sucked, thats why it had such shitty legs. Not because of piracy or adertising. IT WAS HORRIBLE.

yeah i agree hulk 2 wont do really good business. I say 70 million total if it's lucky. It's just too soon to release this if it comes out in 2006. The first film has left a sour tatse on the majority of film goers. I say The first film needs to be re-made around 2010-2015 give it about a decade or so and put rick jones as well a speaking but savage hulk and get rid of abusive absorbing dad story and it will be a major hit.
