 Best Leonardo DiCaprio performance
Well, I admit that despite his great turn in What's Eating Gilbert Grape, I've disliked DiCaprio for a while during his Romeo/Juliet, Titanic (though I loved the film itself), The Beach time. However, I started reevaluating my opinion on him ever since Gangas of New York. His first truly good performance since Gilbert Grape was delivered in Catch me if you can. After that great turns in The Aviator, The Departed and Blood Diamond followed which convinced me that e is among the very best thespians of his generation.
What film do you think features the best performance by DiCaprio? It's not about the quality of the film itself, but the performance.
This is how I'd rank his performances to date:
1. The Departed 2. What's Eating Gilbert Grape 3. The Aviator 4. Blood Diamond 5. Catch me if you can

I haven't seen all of Grape... The Departed for now. On first watch I had his BD performance over it, but after seeing both again, he's better as Costigan.
Pretty solid line-up of performances all things considered.

I just wanted to add, I think we're headed towards an epic Leonardo Dicaprio performance. I feel like we've seen his Five Easy Pieces and his Chinatown, but soon he's going to give us One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Shining.

Costigan. I never respected him till The Departed, he was always too callow.

Billy Costigan, although his performance in Blood Diamond is excellent, too.

He's a great actor - I still think he was at his best in Grape, but he shows off his chops in Aviator, Departed, and Blood Diamond.

That's classic, though to be honest I hate most of her videos. Well, except the youtube gathering parody. There's something about making fun of youtube webcamers that is just too funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMUwjdn7Dyg

I voted Danny Archer. His performance was brilliant. Billy Costigan is a close second.

I've never really liked him, but I did enjoy his performances in Blood Diamond and The Departed.

He really is a brilliant actor.
I'd say his best performance is in The Departed, by a hair over Blood Diamond. He's also excellent in Titanic, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Aviator, and Catch Me If You Can.
I thought he was only OK in Romeo + Juliet; Claire Danes outacted him in that movie.

He's bound to end up with many many Oscar noms by the end of his career. I could see up to 10+ with one or two wins.

Yeah he's a bloody good actor so its hard to choose.
I'd have to say a toss up between Blood Diamond, The Departed and The Aviator. He was born to play Frank Abignaile in Catch Me If You Can.
And he has an impressive list of films coming up. An Oscar win should no doubt follow.

Leonardo DiCaprio is, along with George Clooney and Matt Damon, my favorite actor. He never disappoints.
I was torn between Blood Diamond and The Aviator. Went with the former in the end.

1. The Aviator
2. Blood Diamond
3. The Basketball Diaries (extremely underrated performance)
4. Titanic
5. The Departed
Haven't seen Gilbert Grape in years.

I think the poll just underlines how much he was snubbed for The Departed.
I saw Catch Me If You Can yesterday once asgain. What a great performance there too.

 Re: Best Leonardo DiCaprio performance
I thought I'd give this a *bump* as we've got two new DiCaprio movies coming out this year that might shake up the opinions on this subject.

 Re: Best Leonardo DiCaprio performance
he gets better with every movie, but The Aviator required the most out of him as an actor, so that was my choice. Departed's in a near-second, and while Gilbert Grape was fantastic for a youngster, in comparison to a performance like Dustin Hoffman's in Rain Man at a similar time, it doesn't even come close to perfection.
