Thegun wrote: 82. High Plains Drifter- 1973 Eastwood's directorial Western debut. I think this is much better than unforgiven and gives Westerns a much different look. Eastwood plays a character not too unlike The Man with No Name, but with a secret. He drifts into a town with a dark past that seems very cowardly, but at the same time creepy. Three criminals who killed their last Sheriff are getting out soon, and after seeing Clint in action, they hire him to basically run the town. However, Clint has an secret of his own that may connect him to the town. Theres not as much action as one may expect, but the film itself is beautiful from a cinematography standpoint and the story is very interestnig. Clint did a very good job in front and behind the camera. Very interesting when he makes the town paint every building red (Including the Church) and renames the town HELL. Great non traditional western that is most likely always overlooked.
LAGO!!! Brilliant Movie.

81. Lethal Weapon 2- 1989
Summer 89 had three of the best sequels ever made. Last Crusade, BTTF2, and Lethal Weapon 2. When I was in an acting class people loved the monologue I chose to do (The story about the dead wife and the pen) and they really ate it up. then when they asked what film its from they were even more shocked. Lethal Weapon 2? It sounds like it can't possibly be a good film, when in fact it builds on everything from the great original and never lets up. The action is better, the partnership is stronger and more serious, and the story with was top notch. Need I say more about the main twist involving Mel going over the edge, absolute filmmaking brillaince (Thats why Shane Black is the king of buddy film writing) Also while sometiems Joe Pesci was overboard in the 3rd film, he is great comedic timing in this film as well as a quintessential snitch.
This is where the Lethal Weapon franchise really ended. While 3 and 4 are still awesome in my opinion, the absense of the Black's writing and more and more comedy changed the original tone of the series.

80. Made- 2001
So Swingers is most likely the more groundbreaking film, and is entertaining as well and brought Vince into the limelight, but that film while great, was on such a small budget and ametuerish at times that it's rewatchability isn't as high. Push 5 years later with a bigger budget and cast and we have this very fun crim film. Favreau and Vaughn prove they have great chemistry together yet again, and can pull off drama as well as comedy. Vaughn is supreme in this movie and its about here that his new persona took form. This I think still is my favorite performance of him, and that's saying something. Very underrated in my opinion.

79. Austin Powers- International Man of Mystery- 1997
I love parodies and spoofs, always has been my favorite type of comedy, and the original Austin Powers is up there with the best. It's so brilliantly a parody of the Connery Bond era that almost every single joke works for me. I love the 2nd one as well and like the third one, but the original got it completely right. My favorite joke has to be Dr. Evil telling Scott why he won't kill them right now. "No no no, I have a better idea, I'm going to place them in an easily escapable situation involving an overelaborate and exotic death" "Begin the unnecessarily slow moving dipping mechanism" And My God there are three jokes with chairs that almost noone ever gets that I find absolutely hysterical. Austin Powers and Dr. Evil were voices I used to do from 97-99.

78. The Elephant Man- 1980
I'll go by that this is most likely one of the few films on here that isn't necessarily a favorite of mine, but I do think it is a great movie, and it's the closest a film ever got me to cry. It's a sad depressing movie at that. No film has ever made me cry and it takes a lot for me to get emotional, but this film got to me. Based on a true story, its so well crafted a film with excellent perforamnces from Hopkins and John Hurt is spectacular as John Merrick (The Elephant Man) Just a very dark, atmospheric film that really helps show the beauty of the inside of people.

77. Predator- 1987
Ah, the year I was born. Though it took me about 5 years to catch up with this movie it became an instant favorite of mine. Coming one year after Aliens it took a great idea and was executed brilliantly. Everything is solid. Cast of these tough as nails (And oil on their body is mandatory) Army Search and Rescue team has probably never been beaten. And the villian, my god. The Predator is the quintessential stalker/ badass, and he kills for honor of all things. What a brilliant concept by McTiernan and Stan Lee. He is practically unstoppable. Invisible, arsenal of crazy weapons, strong and can sustain heavy damage. You can't hide from him because he sees the heat of your bodies. And the simplist of things takes him down. MUD. Thats fucking brilliant writing. This is what I like to call the beginning of Schwarzenegger's prime years and he doesnt disappoint. One Liners and just a big badass, and some of his best acting.
And from a testosterone standpoint, nothing beats when Arnie and Carl Weathers meet for the first time, Arnold calls him a Son of a Bitch, then both their arms meet when they shake hands, Flexing show how huge these guys are.

76. Payback- 1999
Without a doubt, Gibson's Porter is one guy who doesnt give a fuck about anything, except an unpaid debt of course. It's very cooly shot with a gritty undertone, darkly humorous and with pretty good action. I think this is how a revenge flick needs to be made. The back story is very interesting as well, and Im surpised they made such a good movie with all the problems (I'll have to check out the new cut with new actors and plot points). When Gibson acted he was top notch and no difference here, with enough of his famous charm to not make him an unlikable character. And Maria Bello and Lucy Lui are hot as hell in this movie. Man on Fire is a good revenge flick too, but this one I like more.

75. Toy Story- 1995
I'm sure you're all saying, Thegun, wheres your soft side. Well here it is. Toy Story was the first of the CGI animation films and remains the best. The story and concept are every boy's dream that their toys were actually real is so cool to think about, but man it be so much cooler if they could be real around them. Tom Hanks as the leader of the huge ensemble of toys anyone can find is perfect casting. You feel for him completely when his character gets the shaft from a new toy, because I know for me thats how it was with some of my toys. Buzz Lightyear, voiced very well by Tim Allen is a perfect Dyanmic to Woody, who go from stangers, to enemies, to friends. The supporting characters are also all given time and effort and they are all hysterical The sequel is just as funny and lively and brought the characters to new platforms. Bring on Toy Story 3 dammit, Woody and Buzz need to show these ameteur CGI films how its done.

74. Glengarry Glen Ross- 1992
This movie is about the real life, and its pretty dam good. The cast is spectacular and has some of the best acting of the respected actors. Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris, Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey, Jack Lemmon, and Alan Arkin. The script is fantastic by David Mamet. This was a play I did this year at high school and it is awesome to make. Interestingly, the actors of this film were immersed as well and went to every day of shooting so they could watch the others act. Alec Baldwin has the best cameo ever in the beginning of the film. Jack Lemmon as Shelly Levine was so influential that he got his own character on the Simpsons (Gil) and the rest of the cast falls perfectly into their roles. In the world of Real Estate theirs only room for closers, a competition arises between the four salesman hinted by the manager. The one who sells the most gets a Cadillac, the 2nd gets a set of steak knives. "3rd and 4th place your fired"
Probably the most overlooked great film that did nothing at the box-office.

73. Kill Bill- The Volumes- 2003-2004
I remember about 2002 when grumblings about this film (One at the time) came about. Quentin Tarantino was returning to films after a 7 year hiatus with a last film that left many disappointed (Looking back, Jackie Brown is solid, fuck who says otherwise) But many thought Quentin may have lost it. In the new decade, films were influenced by QT rather then made by him and that his time in the sun was over. FUCK no I told them, as I waited.
I tell I've never seen so many people that jumped ship jump back on when Kill Bill came out. The movie' action topped everything that year (Including T3, X2, Reloaded and Pirates) with its brilliant choreography and awesome violence. Quentin has shown that his style of filmmaking is still top notch and why most immitators never got it right. Sure Kill Bill Vol one was more Style over substance (But what A+ style it was) but Kill Bill took about half the style and focused on story and dialogue that made QT famous and he crafted another masterpiece. Many people thought the split was a cashout, but in the end, both films were so different at the time, it would have been a very uneven movie. One day they will put them back together with the 3 main action sequences from Vol 2 that were deleted, and the awesome Crazy 88 massacre in color. It will be one movie then, which is why this is one here.

I don't have much time to comment on each title individually due to Tony & Baba's game and my own screenshot one, but I have to say that I'm seeing some great choices there (Elephant Man, High Plains Drfter) and that it's turning out to be a very entertaining and diverse list. Very good list so far, Gun!

72. The Breakfast Club- 1984
The best teen film of all time, and yes I've seen Ferris, Clueless, and many other classics, but this is one film that got it right. I find it incredibly refreshing that the film is very hard R rated. It's a film for teens, and the main audience it attracts is teens, yet most probably werent allowed to see it when it came out. Every character is relatable if they've changed somewhat over the years. It's amost like they all witness a religious awakening. It's a film where every character. All 5 kids and the principla go through several dynamic changes. It's a very compelling drama with some good humor thrown in for times an emotion, capturing a lot of what high school is about. Ferris on the other hand captures the greatness of skipping school as well and I would have liked to include it, but like in Hot Fuzz, its all about the greater good.

I love The Breakfast Club, but Ferris Bueller is a classic. No bones about it.
I must be the only person in the world not head-over-heels in love with Kill Bill.

71. Gladiator-2000
As much as I dislike Russel Crowe, and find Ridley Scott is past his prime. This film is completely solid in every way. The story compelling; the acting, top notch; the action and violence, inventive and good; and the set pieces and Collosseum are great to look at. Jaquin Pheonix used to actually creep me out in his role, but looking back, he is very good as the villian. I think this will go down as Crowe's definitive role (And yes I've seen a beautiful mind) It came out the same year as the Patriot, and while I love period pieces, this one goes a step higher.
Thank god they never went ahead with those rumors for a sequel. That would have ruined the film.

70. Dogma- 1999
Sure Dogma goes against most Kevin Smith films, in which their is an actual point to the film, but my god this movie I loved. The philosophies touched on will most likely divide some people, but I find the jokes to be top notch, the effects to be pretty good, and cast is very fun to watch. I mean Chris Rock as an Apostle, Selma Heyek as a Muse, Jay and Silent Bob as prophets. Its so absurd, yet I buy it. Alan Rickman has a lot of fun, as does the rest of the cast. Linda fuerintino (However you spell it) is the weakest of the cast, but not bad at all and holds it together. Maffleck do a good job as the two runaway angels and Jason Lee is always brilliant. While I like all the Smith films, this one just always rises a little higer for me.

69. Batman Returns- 1992
Yes indeed. The only superhero film you will find on this list. Now let it be told I love Superhero films. I have seen all of them, and hold many of them in high reguards, but this one goes a step further as it adds not only atmosphere to its great superhero tale, but complete depth that most superhero films can never imagine. Nolan may have the most accurate Batman portrayal, but Burton took Batman and made it his own with Returns. This is something I discussed in my film class. In this film, Batman has three villians. Catwoman; Penguin; and Max Shrek. Each of them represents a current psyche of Batman/ Bruce wayne. Catwoman is wounded and becomes a vigilanted of the night; Penguin is an misunderstood orphan; and Max Shrek is a ruthless business man. Now whats so interesting about them is that throughout the movie, they develop parnterships, but ultimately try and kill each other. Thats suppose to give you an idea of what goes on inside Batman's head. The brilliant casting in the batman series continues as Danny Devito and Michelle Pheiffer are the best interpretations of the characters I've ever seen. And Keaton was as good as ever.
I'll also note that the relationship between Batman/Bruce and MIchelle/ Catwoman is the best there ever was in a comicbook movie. The scene at the costume ball is great. Michelle's line when they realize who they are is superb "Oh God, does this mean we have to start fighting again" I have never seen a better superhero film.

68. Tombstone- 1993
If there was a Western that brought together high caliber actors together, had awesome action sequences, and a famous gunfight in Americna history, then Tombstone is it. Everything about this movie is uber cool and Kurt who now apparently directed the film as well, holds the impressive cast together in top form. The villians are great, the heroes are not just good, but also questionable characters themselves and the scenery and sets are beautiful. And the gunfights are memorable. Much better than Kevin Costner's go at it a year later. That one may have been a little more accurate, but Tombstone had much better style and fun. And Val Kilmer gives another performance in his long running career. Doc Holiday is hysterical, mean, and near death. And the battle at the OK Coral is awesome, few Westerns made me want to be a cowboy, but this one made me wonder how cool it would be to be a Lawman in the old West.
