I've never actually seen Heroes, but hearing that Milo Ventimiglia is the lead has just sealed the fact that I never will.

Well, there's a number of shows where the so-called leads are probably the weakest part of the show. He's not award-worthy, but he isn't bad either. His character is bigger than his portrayal of the character, I suppose. I wouldn't let him ruin your chances of watching the show.

Officially, Calista and Sally Field are being submitted as Lead.

And Griffiths as supporting.

Which I think makes sense.

So when are we starting this?

I think we should start the nominating round sometime this week or early next week. So... we should start up a FYC thread.

If someone would like to start a FYC thread (Raffiki?), you can do that now. Then, nominating should start by the end of the week.

Is the nomination round going to be popular vote or passion voting?

What do you mean, Raffiki? I'm going with the usual voting process. The five nominees that have the most votes from ballots will get nominated.

Should we start the nominations this week? Tuesday?

Passion voting is where each person ranks their choices in th category. So, basically, under Best Drama, they might put Lost as No. 1 and Heroes as No. 2. If you tallied it with passion voting, that would mean Lost would get like 5 points because of that No. 1 and Heroes wouldget 4 points. And then the actual category is decided by the most number of points at the end.

Well, there's the popular vote style (what you mentioned)

Then there is the passion system voting in which posters submit their nominees in ranked format and their #1 gets, say, 5 points, their #2 gets 4 points and so forth. So, in the end, the shows with highest number of points get the nomination spots. Why some people like this version better (And this is what the Emmys employed last year though they tweaked it again this year) is that it allows for smaller and less watched shows (like Jericho, Kathy Griffin, maybe even Veronica Mars) to have a better chance of also being in the race since the few people who watch them could place them at #1 and allow them to rake in alot of points.

The Emmy's were criticized in the past for having the same shows nominated all the time, so they instituted the passion voting last year which resulted in a very untraditional nominee list. Still being criticized, they tweaked it this year and are doing both. I think what they are doing is a popular vote to determine 10 finalists per category and then a passion vote to determine the 5 nominees or the other way around. Either way, they're trying to give both voting styles equal (50/50) weight.

It doesn't really matter to me... but if there is any more work involved I don't mind helping with tabulation and what not since my quarter's over this Tuesday so I'll have more time on my hands.

But, yes we should definitely start the nominating process this week sometime... maybe latest Thursday and then give it 2-3 weeks time (?)... I don't know how long it usually lasts.

The Emmy nominations are announced July 17.

I like the idea of passion voting for these awards...it will allow less-watched shows to get some love.

Some stuff:

What are the shows already in the hall of fame?
Would The Daily Show and The Colbert Report count as Comedy or Talk Shows?

I'm guess I'm kind of wondering about the crossover-category thing, too.

For instance, although it doesn't officially get submitted as a comedy (like The Daily Show and Colbert), could we consider something like Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List one anyway (even though it's officially just a reality show)?

Well, I do believe I allowed animated shows to be nominated for Best Comedy as well, so I don't see why The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List don't apply. If they're funny, nominate 'em.

I'll probably start the thread today or tomorrow at the latest to start voting, with a (hopeful) timeline for nominating, then voting.

I do apologize for the delay.

I will also let you guys know the Hall of Famers from the last two years, just so there aren't any unnecessary nominees.

I'm really tired tonight, guys, and I don't want to finish up the thread halfass-edly. I promise it'll be ready tomorrow.

To be prepared, you guys could get the ballots ready now. That way, I won't have to extend the deadline an extra week or two, like I normally do.

Okay, I'm finishing it up for anyone wondering. Should be up within the hour.

And, we're going with passion voting. It seems to be what you guys want, so I'm going to go with it. Should be fun!
