Lookin' good for Knocked Up. Couldn't get The Break Up type numbers but hopefully it will hold better than The Break Up did last year. About expected for Pirates. I'd say a 60% fall for the weekend. Mr. Brooks did ehhh... while Gracie of course bombed. Goal! made 1.8 mil. while this will be lucky to make 1.2 mil. Poor Bug. It's such a quality movie (supposedly) yet it fails miserably.

It was always tough for Knocked Up to get Break Up #'s despite the similar release dates. As unpredictable as Aniston's box office is, she does have a lot of starpower for the right projects, and the Vince/Aniston curiosity factor probably played a huge role in the opening. And Vince was coming off of Wedding Crashers after all. They were two big stars. Knocked Up on the otherhand had pretty less known movie stars, but up and comers. It could very well outgross the Break Up. Comparing the openings is difficult as starpower has alot to do with the openings, but legs has to do with quality...

Since Dead Man's Chest didn't increase more than 50% until it's 7th week I don't think this one will either. School's out in a bit of the country so I just don't see it happening.

But just a bit of the country. The majority is still in. Also, last year the majority of holdovers in the top 10 increased over 50% on Saturday, and considering Pirates already increased more than any movie last year on Friday, I think that indicates that it's a weekend movie, thanks to the family appeal and long running time.

I think that Pirates 3 should get 50% up on Saturday. It went up 120% from thursday to friday. If it will happen then Pirates 3 should get 48 milion $ this weekend :shades:

I think it will go like this:

Friday - 13.36m$
Saturday - 18.70m$ (+40%)
Sunday - 13.8m$ (-30%)

3-day - 45.5m$ (-61%).

Poor drop for POTC: AWE

Pretty good for Knocked Up.

Expected for Mr. Brooks and Gracie.

Most expected Pirates to increase 80-100% on Friday. It increased 120%. So, why can't it increase 50% on a non-school day for EVERYONE (as not all schools are out and it does have a family audience)?

Well, the 'big-3' continue to perform below their previous incarnations on corresponding days:

AWE: $13.5m - Total: $186.8m
DMC: $18.5m - Total: $214.5m

Shrek3: $7.4m - Total: $235.3m
Shrek2: $10.5m - Total: $271.5m

SM3: $2m - Total: $312.8m
SM2: $2.4m - Total: $334.2m

Spider-Man seems to be doing the best, in comparison.

Pretty crappy fall for Pirates, but kind of expected.

Knocked Up is very, very solid. Looks like about $30M, with possible legs out the wazoo. Stay tuned

I figured Mr. Brooks would be around 10. It looks interesting, but like the type of movie most people would wait for DVD for.

Not terrible for Shrek. Great hold for Waitress considering the theater boost wasn't incredibly significant.

Great number for Knocked Up. It should get above 30 mil and will have great legs ala Wedding Crashers.

Pirates dropped hard, but expected. It should have a healthy Sat increase to give it a weekend around 48 mil.

SM2 was the only one to do worst then the one before. The other two broke out.

SM3 didn't do it, why would AWE do it, especially now that a bunch of kids didn't have school on Friday? 50% is the maximum IMO. I'd say 45%.

P3 has better WOM than SM3.

I don't agree with BJ, I'm just playing Devil's advocate here.

I disagree, I think mainstream WOM is about the same for all three of the big May films.

No way is S3 on the same plain as the other two threequels. I could understand an argument about SM3 and P3 being on the same level, but I haven't seen any indication that WOM for S3 is as good as P3 or SM3.

Of my friends to whom I've spoken, most are more disappointed with PotC3 than SM3, but still find it to be a better movie. It could b argued either way.

Oh I agree with that, I think at least Shrek and SM3 had some fun to them. Pirates was just a little too dark and odd at times to be as likable and where the Mainstream usually likes it. In my opinion, there all in the B range
