 Assessing Ratatouille's Chances
How high could this film go? It has the tremendous advantage of being a non-sequel, and it really does seem fresh. I suspect it could end up being the best reviewed major film of this summer.
And if even Cars pulled off a multiplier of around 4x, couldn't this get an equal or even higher one? Could it get 4.5x?
I kinda want to see it make $300m

Hmmmm... Im not so sure. Films about rats don't tend to do as well as other animated movies.
It'll do well, but may be Pixar's 2nd least grossing film
Right now I'm thinking around 180-220

I wonder about how well the concept will come across initially, and whether this might give it better legs in the long run. I mean:
"Hm, it's about rats, so I don't know. Maybe I'll wait to see what people are saying. What, you thought it was really good Maureen? Well then, maybe I should check it out".

I'm becoming more and more convinced that the number this'll do will be at least 70/250 (I'd say 300, but damn that HP5). If Pixar can get a movie about Cars to open to 60mil, surely one about talking animals, which appeals a lot more to kids, can get an opening along the lines of Finding Nemo.
Say, who would join me in a "Ratatouille 70+ OW, 250+ Total" club?

Will Potter be reall all that bad to it? I know Monsters was affected greatly, but as regards Shrek 2, that dropped less than 50% after Memorial Day Weekend and in face of Azkaban.
And it has strong weekdays to support it till then anyway.

Shrek 2 si quite different compared to any of the Pixar films, and I think that show with the drop it had against Azkaban. Monster's Inc. is the best indicator we have, and with HP5 likely to be bigger than Potter 1 (at least on OW), the drop will probably be larger and stop any chances of 300mil.

The thing is Pixar made the Rates seems cute unlike Rats from Flushed away, the cute animal aspect is very marketable so I see this one grossing something in the middle Pixar range Cars-The Incredibles. Maybe it could break out and do betterm but Potter will take away it's audience.

It'll make around the average for a Pixar film (unadjusted) - $240-$250 million

The reaction to the trailer when I went to see Pirates the other night was pretty stellar. All the more impressive considering the audience were mostly adults. I was wary about this a while back, but now I think it might break out. Could do for rats what Nemo did for Clownfish - curse every parent to have to buy one for their kids.
Biggest Pixar movie since Nemo - $310 million.

Harry Potter is gonna hurt it a lot, so I'm afraid I don't see it going much higher than $225M. I'd love to see it do better though, we need a real quality blockbuster, something none the of May threequels and Transformers won't provide.

I think the fact that no other movies this summer have been good, may help it a lot.

WEll parents could always buy their kids a pet snake if they have a need to get rid of the rat as soon as the kids grow tired of it

I say it doesn't make it past $160 million. It looks even less funny than Cars, and its premise doesn't feel as grand as any of the other Pixar movies. It's too generic. No doubts that the actual movie will be amazing, but I don't think people will eat this up.
Opening: $40 million
Total: $155
Don't get me wrong, I fully hope this blows past $200 million. I just don't think it's that type of movie.

Yeah its got more of a Spring or Fall CGI pick vibe. Shark Attack/Over the Hedge numbers are not out of the question. Still Im thinking Madagascar numbers - but $155m is certainly a possibility.

I partially agree with MG.
Yes, it is Pixar, but the plot and concept is just a little to unconvential for a pixar movie. And also, how are little kids suppose to pronouce that title? But for me, I think it depends on the reviews. If it they are pixar level, then it should do 50 - 60 million opening weekend, if not, then I agree with MG.

With the handy pronunciation guide on the poster of course!
Honestly, sat in the theatre the other day, the number of giggles and "awww"s I heard was massive! The bit where he nods and shakes his head in the jar is possibly the most adorable thing ever, and it will single-handedly sell this film to kids. That and a shitload of Disney's top-brand advertising.

I'm not sensing a big opening for this. Maybe $55 million at the most. Legs will definitely make or break it. Right now I see it opening to $50 million and squeaking by $200 million (assuming it's typical Pixar quality).
