When reasonable people hate Forrest Gump, it has nothing to do with Pulp Fiction.

2. Once Upon a Time in the West (Sergio Leone - 1968)

Image

An absolute masterpiece, and whoever disagrees with me will receive a bullet between his eyes shot from my Colt. :guns:

Someone from IMDB used this as a comment, and I can't find better words: No western has ever come close to this one....and no western ever will.

Henry Fonda as a ruthless killer with steely blue eyes and Charles Bronson as the man with the Harmonica are the stuff movie dreams are made of.
If you have never seen this movie, give it a chance, I doubt you will be disappointed. (But please, only the widescreen version, and the bigger the screen the better.)

It contains one of the best openings in the history of cinema (the arrival to the train station) and for me, the best quote ever:

Harmonica: And Frank?
Snaky: Frank sent us.
Harmonica: Did you bring a horse for me?
Snaky: Well... looks like we're...
[snickers]
Snaky: ...looks like we're shy one horse.
Harmonica: You brought two too many.

If you see it, you will see why it's so great.

yuck, Once Upon a Time in America is... yuck, horrible. The movie could have been cut down by 2 hours and all they would have had to cut was filler silence.

I've watched the Director's Cut, but still cant see the brilliance in OUATIAmerica. But OUATITWest is pretty incredible.

#'s 2, 3, 5 and 8 are the reason why I'm holding off on my list. I own those movies and have still yet to watch them.

Great to see Back to the Future and Robocop so high.

1. Aliens (James Cameron - 1986)

Image

Did I mention I like war movies?
Did I mention I like science-fiction movies?
Did I mention I like horror movies?
Did I mention I like porn movies?

Well, take the former three genres, mix them together, and you will get the absolute best experience I have ever had in a movie theater. One of the rare instances where a sequel improves over its already great first movie.

Exciting! Suspenseful! Chilling! Goosebump inducing! I could go on and on with adjectives describing what I feel watching this movie.
Filled with unforgettable characters: Ripley of course, but also Hicks, Hudson, Bishop, Vasquez, etc. And filled with unforgettable set pieces, with my favorite the one where they are in a room and the Aliens come thru the ceiling. As with Robocop, pity the sequels destroyed the franchise.

I have a feeling this movie also works so well due to the absence of CGI in those times. Model work is excellent and Make up FXs too, making the creatures much more realistic.
And who could forget this quote: Get away from her, you bitch!

Once Upon A Time In The West is indeed a masterpiece. It has one of the best opening scenes put to film.

Very interesting list. I admit to being an amateur film-lover so there are plenty of films on this list that I know little about (... but I'm pretty sure I'm not alone, heh).

It's cool to see another fan of On the Beach. Great, great film.

So, I have some glaring concerns with the list I posted some two years ago under my older account. I've so much film since then and I'd really like to update what I've got. IMO, these lists are always works in progress so I'd like to take the shot at fixing it up. I'd like to ask each of you to never, ever look at the old list.

Unfortunately, I think I'll sound like a broken record when I do post it...

So add me to the list.

It's amazing how tastes evolve isn't it.

My taste hasn't changed since i made my list but the numbers 100 to about 40 could do with a serious rework since i threw the whole thing together in about 2 hours and forgot a lot of great movies.

That and put Vanishing Point in my top 20 where it belongs

Yeah, I'm nervous about forgetting great films. It's bound to happen... though one could reason that a film isn't great if I can't remember it. I'd just hate for someone to interpret something as absolute, because my tastes are definitely evolving. I watch dozens of "great" movies every year, so it should come as no surprise that I frequently find something better, so to speak.

I'm still going to give it a stab but I'm not comfortable with 1. the order of the films, 2. the composition of my list, and 3. the lack of older pictures on the current list (well, the one that I'm currently polishing).

I've decided to take jmart's advice and do one now as well, though I still haven't seen a boatload of movies. So add me to the list as well.

I'd like to reserve a spot to make a list myself as well. Good thing many are ahead of me, because I will need time and some further watching. I think I'll follow Shack's example in the way of presenting the list.

Just remember though. I've decided to go against my own advice and will not post a list...........at least for a couple of weeks. There are a few films I own that I have yet to watch (Exact number is 118 but I'm not going to watch anywhere near that many) so I'm not going after Loki. I'll go after Lecter though.

Who else is against :notworthy: Forrest Gump :notworthy: ? :guns: :guns: :wotw: :wotw: :poke: :poke: :death: :death:

Btw, I did PM Joseba to let him know that it's his turn.

Unless there is already a thread for this, it would be fun too to see a list of the 10 worst movies you have ever seen.
And I don't mean the typical Z-grade stuff that goes DTV, but theatrical movies were the expectations were so high, or the final result so pretentious, that you would prefer to stick red hot needles in your eyes before having to watch those movies again.

Lecter, Magnus:
Nebs: :puke:

Oh and BTW, I loved Forrest Gump. Far more than Pulp Fiction and Shawshank actually. Expect it to show up in my Top 100 as well.

I've only seen 39 of your movies Price. That's probably the lowest numbers out of anyone's list, save for Guybrush's. ;)
