Whats your favorite Swordfight?
I was going to start up a favorite fight thread, but I figured it would be easier to categorize it. So Here is the first parter.
I like a good sword fight, I've always found it to be honorable but at the same time cool as hell. Theres a lot of good ones, I mean I would classify the SW films all to have sword fights, even if they are lazer swords. Out of all of them, I think the Luke vs Vader fight in ESB is the best, the three different environments with the hero loosing at the end is classic.
These would be my tops:
1. The Princess Bride- Indigo vs. The Man in Black (It's the classiest sword fight I've ever seen between two masters as well as being funny and well choreographed.
2. Kill Bill Vol. 1- Bride vs. Crazy 88s. Who would have thought that Quentin was as brilliant in action choreography as he was in plot.
3. Star Wars- ESB and Phantom Menace-Darth Maul vs. Obi Wan and Qui Gon.
Say what you want about the Phantom Menace, the three way sword fight is absolute brilliance. And read my earlier comments about ESB. But to be frank when it comes to SW all of them are pretty great.
Any thoughts.

Oh, I'll also note that I have not seen a lot of foreign films, particularly most samurai or asian type of cinema. So if anyone knows of some great ones, please talk about it, I might have to take a run to Amazon.com, or blockbuster

Oh man, I totally forgot about the end of Highlander. The quickening was sick in the only good entry in the series. Though Connery's demise was a great sword fight too with the castle being destroyed around them.

A few people like the sword fight between Liam Neeson and Tim Roth in some period piece. I currently enjoy the multiple weapon fight in Legendary Weapons of China. I also like the sword fight in ESB. And I can't forget the Michelle Yeoh fight in Crouching Tiger.

i just wanted to type that too. its also one of the great crowdpleasing moments in swashbuckling history when the pompous baddie mel ferrer starts sweating in this fight, realizing he cant keep up with granger.
its only rivaled by the ronald colman/douglas fairbanks fight in the 1937 version of the prisonder of zenda.
stewart granger starred in a not-so-hot 1952 remake btw.

Yea, I think its Rob Roy your talking about. That one is ok, it kind of steals from Hamlet though, but it is pretty good.

Princess Bride for me, then Anakin vs Obi-Won, Darth Maul, and then Kill Bill(Elle vs Uma is my fave).

I have to agree with this one, and also add in the Princess Bride sequence. Admittedly the swordfighting itself isn't all that stellar, but the reason I never tire of watching either of these fights is that they match the sword beats exactly with the music beats -- really, watch and LISTEN to them sometime. And both scenes were written as a character development scenes.

I have to go with Pirates 1 Barbossa/Depp and Westley vs Inigo Montoya in Princess Bride. The fighting between Aragorn and the orcs at the end of Fellowship was also good but I'm not sure that counts as a swordfight or not.

Oops, sorry, I meant the Depp/Bloom sequence in Pirates 1.
(Not that Depp/Rush wasn't good, it was)

Favorite sword fight is Paramount's Gladiator fight between Maximus and the guy with the metal mask. Also Braveheart has some pretty good swordfights. Paramount does some great swordplay but WB comes close second

Pretty much any sword fight in Kill Bill is amazing. My favorite would be Elle vs. The Bride in the trailer.
