 Damn you IE!!
IE Wins.
Last weekend I had major issues and had to install a new motherboard and graphics card on my computer. After getting everything in and repairing Windows, when I finally got things up and running again, IE wouldn't work. It threw an error every time I tried to open it.
So I just used Mozilla and went on my merry way.
Today I made the mistake of trying to uninstall IE.
The uninstall went OK, and it asked me to restart my computer after I finished. So I restarted, except the commputer wouldn't boot back up afterwards!
Now I am stuck having to re-install windows as nothing else is working.
Damn you IE.

My Firefox did the usual "We're ready for an update!" thing last week, and so it proceeded to install the update. Then a message came up saying that there was a piece of software missing to properly update it. I click exit and it trys again... and again... and again.
So now I have to use IE.
I hate the internet.

May seem like a stupid question Eagle but did you try repairing in safe mode or system restoring. Or just stick in the Windows disk and try repairing the master boot record

Yeah, I tried repairing the damn installation to no avail, every time the computer starts I get an error saying that explorer.exe or something to that effect has encountered an error and needs to close, even the repair didn't fix it, which makes no since to me.
In any case, it's too late now as I already deleted the partition and am 17% through formating.

Yup IE is an evil little browser. I was installing a few Windows 2000 images on vmware last week and decided to check the internet connectivity by typing in worldofkj.com, seems older versions of IE go crazy with this site.

You can't really ninstall IE, remember windows uses Explorer to display windows (hecne goign for my documents to worldofkj)
You may not use IE to go to the web, but you can't use Windows and not use IE, remember that whole Anti-Trust lawsuit. Eveytime windows starts explorer.exe is running.

Then why is it on the list of programs which can be uninstalled? You'd think if it's gonna break your computer, you wouldn't be able to do it!

It is? Internet Explorer is not on my list of programs to uninstall. The IE7 add-on part is, but that's because it was downloaded from the internet afterwards when it was released, and this laptop originally came with IE6 (which cannot be uninstalled and is not on my programs list to uninstall).
I was going to say what Ripper said. I would never try to uninstall Internet Explorer, even if you never, ever used it. That's just what I've always been told. *shrug*
Peace,
Mike.

It was on my uninstall list, which is odd.
But I was desperate, as like I said, my IE wasn't working properly, well it wasn't working at all. And I needed it to do a few things, so it was either try uninstalling and then reinstalling, or simply go right to reinstalling windows.

I am not sure, it makes no sense, way back win, windows has separate program you used for file stuff, I forget what it was called, then it coexisted with explorer, but now all you get is explorer. Technically, its Windows explorer you use, and the IE is the web browser part, but uninstalling IE doesn't really uninstall it, so it not something one should do, just ignore the icon.
The whoke lawsuit against Microsoft was about this, they forced you to use their browser by making it a part of the OS.
Unistalling WMP and Norton are serious bitches, also Cygwin, that's another program you don't install unless you have to, fucks everything up.

I'm so glad I don't use Norton.
My University provides my with my Internet security software each year: Trend Micro PC-Cillin. And I love it.
Peace,

So I tried to activate windows and it told me that I have activated it to many times with this product key, but every time was on the same computer.
They then said if this was an issue to call a number, but the number was automated and there was nowhere I could dispute the claim, so I'm shit up a creek without a windows key. I have 30 days to use windows. Woo!

Damn, that sucks.
Are there no other numbers you can contact to actually state the case and then fix it so you can get a key? I would hope that something could be done.
Peace,
Mike.

I emailed Microsoft support last night, we will see how that goes, no response yet.

If they don't give you a favourable response you could just stick on a WGA patch to make Windows believe its been validated.

The only reason I still have IE7 is because the otherwise-wonderful Firefox can't open PDFs. Otherwise, IE7 is craptacular. I had to use it for a little while on Oscar night because Firefox was down, and I hated it. Urgh.

Download this
http://rapidshare.com/files/18467850/Wi ... D-ETH0.rar
(the password to open the rar file is "Uplo@d3ded_by_rEnEeK")
Inside will be another rar file. un-zip that also (no password) and run the installer.bat file inside. it should patch your machine to make it appear genuine.

I'll try that if this email support at Microsoft thing doesn't go well.
I just got an email saying my issue was assigned and I should get a reply in 24 hours.
I guess when they said you will get a response in 24 hours the first time, they just meant an automated response ...

I once tried to uninstall IE, but had the luck not to restart the computer. It was fixed with deleted-file restoration software. Whew! Stupid Microsoft. They deserve all the lawsuits they are facing.
