That really bugged me that she was just like: meh, i fell into water, time to drown!
Well, I don't know if you watched the previous episodes but she was quite depressed and they even touched on the whole "drowning" thing with that tub scene an episode before, so I took it (as I thought it should have been taken) as somewhat of a suicide.... which made it so much more investing and interesting for me.

[spoil] Quote: 'Grey's' spinoff possible
ABC is considering spinning off Kate Walsh's ob-gyn character, Addison Montgomery into her own show, but it's unlikely that her on-again-off-again beau, Mark "McSteamy" Sloan (Eric Dane), would follow her to the new program. By Gary Levin, USA TODAY ABC is mulling a spinoff of its No. 1 hit, Grey's Anatomy, around the character of Dr. Addison Montgomery, an ob-gyn (and ex-wife of Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd) played by Kate Walsh. Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes is preparing a two-hour episode of Grey's, to air in May, that would serve as the pilot episode for the proposed spinoff. If the network approves, the show will be considered for a spot on next fall's schedule, to be unveiled to advertisers in mid-May.
An ABC spokeswoman confirmed scant details of the plan, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, but said the plot line for the proposed spinoff was being kept under wraps and no title has been settled upon.
But a source with direct knowledge of the plans says that Addison, unhappy with both her former husband and former lover Dr. Mark "McSteamy" Sloan at Seattle Grace, will get a job offer out of town as this season ends. The two-part cliffhanger will have her mulling this new offer; if the spinoff goes forward, and it seems more likely than not, she'll accept the other job and start next season there, possibly in family practice. If it doesn't, she will have decided not to take the offer and stay put when Grey's returns in fall.
The new show, like Grey's, would also have an ensemble cast, with other actors yet to be hired. But at this point it doesn't look as if any other Grey's actors would leave.
Spinoffs of hit series are increasingly rare, as many have not paid off for their networks. But most often they arrive as a weaker replacement as the "parent" show leaves the schedule: Friends begat Joey, which lasted less than two seasons.
Grey's remains hugely popular; it premiered in April 2005 and is only in its second full season. Last week's episode averaged 25.8 million viewers, its largest audience ever aside from last February's post-Super Bowl airing. [/spoil]

Yeah I watched the previous episodes, I still think it was rather weak. You can't just all the sudden give a girl her 'dream man' and then expect a viewer to accept that she is all the sudden suicidal for no apparent reason.
There was no explanation and it seemed stupid as hell that she just decided to drown.
Aside from that though, great episode, the second half especially. The first half hour was meh, but the second half was stellar. Oh and that info Sam Nasty posted is quite interesting.

Wow. Interesting.
In regards to the Meredith thing, I didn't take it as suicide. It's winter when the episode took place; the water's COLD. Not that she maybe hasn't these past couple episodes thought about "giving up" on life or whatever, but I didn't see it as a deliberately suicidal act.
And as for the episode, it was pretty good, about on par with last week's. Hated Izzie's speech, though. How contrived can you get?

But she doesn't even try to swim! She just sits there, channels her inner Heroes moment and invisiblizes herself ... then slowly sinks!
She doesn't swim to the wall and try and reach the top, she doesn't do the obvious, and head for the same damn stairs that McDreamy later carries her out from, and she doesn't even cry out for help!
The whole thing was poorly written. Funny thing is, despite that, it still turned out to be a fantastic episode ... though I agree, the Izzy line about George's wife was too much.

Who knows. Maybe it'll come up in future episodes that she WAS trying to kill herself. I don't know. I just didn't take it that way. (And will have a hard time believing that if it's true.)
I didn't mind what Izzie said to George. He DID make a mistake. I just didn't like her speech in general. "I believe that... I believe..."

Ummm nooooooo about the Addison spin-off
She's my favorite character, and I'm worried Grey's would take a hit if she left.

My thoughts too.
It's true that she's starting to become the most disposable character (by lack of story connection with either Derek or McSteamy) but she is by far my favorite and I think both she and the show (or whatever show with her character) functions best with her as a supporting character.

I feel they should keep Addison on Grey's Anatomy. What are they going to call the show Addison's Anatomy?

This is bad news. Addison is one of my favorite characters. I'd definitely watch the spinoff if it happened, but something tells me that this idea will be abandoned by May.

They seem to be getting a little more serious on the spin-off. They casted Taye Diggs who could potentially star in the spin-off to appear in the back door pilot.

I think its far too early to do a spinoff (its in season 3). Fraiser worked as it was an extension of Cheers, and a smart show, but did not air at the same time as its predecessor. I think they should have waited at least two more seasons.
Also, we kinda already knew exactly what would happen this episode. Episode #2 was actually my favorite of the three parter...

I really liked the episode. I know pretty much everyone here hates him, but the part at the end, where Denny and Izzy feel each other... that made me tear up.
We all knew Meredith would live, but it was a good episode none the less. I liked it better than the first two parts of the show; for some reason, I didn't really like the first two episodes much. The second one was better than the first, but while everyone loved the first part, it didn't resonate with me at all.

I thought the episode was AMAZING! I definitely teared up quite a few times, especially during Christina's scene with Meredith at the end ("Thank you for not dying"), the final scene between Meredith and her mother ("You are anything but ordinary") and the incredibly moving Denny-Izzy moment at the end, which was beautiful. One of the best so far this season for sure. It actually was quite thought-provoking as well, IMO.

That was a wonderful episode (no surprise), although I think Part 2 was both the emotional pinnacle and the best episode this show has ever had, probably.
What last night could've used was Izzie apologizing to Callie. I know she apologized to George, but she really needs to get over herself and start trying to accept Callie.
I was glad Meredith and Ellis found some sort of common ground before Ellis died, even if it was in Meredith's subconscious.
The scene between Meredith and Cristina when she woke up was heartbreaking ("Thank you for not dying"). I find it impossible to decide if Sandra Oh or Chandra Wilson or Kate Walsh would be the best winner of an Emmy this year, at least for me.

Episode was good. But I don't like it too much when the show forgets that they are doctors in a hospital. The whole ferry tragedy got little screen time. I know. I know. Meredith is dying. But so were tons of others.
I found it hard to swallow that she was dead for over an hour.

Yeah, that bothered me too. They spent a ton of time on their co-worker, but shouldn't doctors be prepared for tragic cases, even among their own?
That aside, I didn't get pissed off watching it. That's three weeks in a row! I may actually like the show. I'm not certain, though. I'll have to test it a few more times before I say I like it.

Last night's episode was really great but I agree with Libs that Part 2 was te emotional peak.
My favorite scene is (in Part 2) when Mark sits down and grabs Derek's arm. And thn when the door opens and Addison sees Mark and Derek sitting together.

ER did the same thing when Carter/Lucy were stabbed.
It may not be incredibly realistic, but do you honestly think the show is going to act as if the main character is some person we've never seen before and everyone should be unemotional?

No no, of course not. I have the "Why are they going to such great lengths?" thought in my head while watching, but I quickly realize it's a TV show with its main character in peril. Of course they're going to go as far as they can.
I think it's a huge step for me to actually like the show. It's not my favorite by any means, but it's definitely something I'll keep watching (sorry jujubee).

LOL you guys need to watch best week ever on VH1. They spent like 5 minutes making fun of the last three episodes and how the doctors stopped saving everyone to help meredith , who was already dead. and how after being dead for two episodes, meredith wakes up and is like "what's up? what did I miss? who's doing who?" LOL

I actually thought that was the worst episode of Grey's I've ever watched.
I hated the 'death' scenes with Meridith screaming 'I CAN'T FIND THE SOURCE OF THE BLEEDING'
The whole thing was shoddily written if you ask me. The thing is, some of the characters are so strong that the show can overcome a lot of the crap they write for it, this time I felt it was just a bit too melodramatic.

Just watched it.
Yeah, some of it was silly, but a lot of it was powerful stuff.
Think that was my favorite of the three.

I don't remember, when did you start watching this regularly?
You should go back and see some of season 2, which was just as good (if not better) than this amazing season has been. Particularly "Into You Like a Train" (the Monica Keena bleeding girl from Thursday's episode was one of the patients in that episode), which is definitely in this show's top 5 ever.
