Looks like Idol had the same 6 million jump at 8:30:

FOX
8:00 PM American Idol Households 17.4 / 27 Adults 18-49 12.7 / 32 Viewers 31,325,000
8:30 PM American Idol Households 20.1 / 30 Adults 18-49 15.0 / 35 Viewers 37,040,000
9:00 PM American Idol Households 21.5 / 31 Adults 18-49 16.6 / 37 Viewers 39,418,000
9:30 PM American Idol Households 21.7 / 31 Adults 18-49 17.4 / 38 Viewers 39,695,000

I'm still baffled by it.

So AI averaged 36.87m viewers last night. That's more than last year's finale (36.38m - the previously highest rated episode), and down only like 1% from the premiere!

Last year AI fell 11% from its premiere.

The year before it fell 21% from its premiere.

Hoooooly crap.

OTH did not hold up against the Idol onslaught as well as it did last year... last week's rerun got more viewers. Oh well, AI won't be 2 hours every night.

Deal or No Deal got smushed. Poor NBC can't catch a break.

Actually, I think that might have partially to do with those two being just an hour long, while this one was two hours. Had it been just an hour, it would've gotten 34.2M, a 9% drop. But it increases every half-hour, which obviously helps the overall night average. I'm surprised this didn't click to Fox sooner!

Last year they didn't do the two hour thing like they are this year? But I think that if the one hour was 9-10, last night still would've been around what it was, if not higher. There are just more people who watch tv at 9.

The Wednesday debuts had new shows premiering after them, so they were one hour. However, those shows disappeared quickly (Point Pleasant and Skating with Celebrities), so I quess they just gave up with that.
