Post The O.C. To End This February
The sun will set for the last time on THE O.C. when the series ends its four-season run Thursday, Feb. 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The countdown has begun, with all-original episodes airing from Thursday, Jan. 4 through the last episode on Feb. 22.

That's so sad :( This show was getting great again. I'm really upset.

I've heard rumors though that it might move to The CW.

Oh well. At least they're not cutting back any more eps.

The show will end with 92 episodes, just 8 shy of 100...

It will still get syndication rights, I'm almost positive. It's a hot property and the DVD releases have done quite well.

I wonder if it will end up moving to The CW. It's unlikely, but we can always hope :(

Isn't it usually around that time (last weeks of February) that the Thursday Idol show airs? If so, cool lead-in fot the finale.

The Thursday Idol show aired February 23, 2006 at 8:00 last season. So you can only assume they will air a Thursday show on February 22, 2007. Looks like FOX will be giving The O.C. a big lead-in for the series finale.

Well at least that's a plus. I'm also glad that they are giving it a proper sendoff and not just yanking it off the air.

I can't believe this show is ending :( It was obviously pretty likely based on the ratings, but it had been gaining viewers every week and each episode was continuously great every Thursday. I just didn't expect it at all :( I'll especially miss seeing Rachel Bilson and Autumn Reeser every week.

It's annoying that FOX gets rid of this show yet gives full season orders to 'Til Death and Standoff, which receive equally middling ratings and don't have half the critical support THE OC has.

I know it's sad. FOX should have at least renewed The O.C. for 8 more episodes to hit 100 at the finale and then end it. It's not like they have anything better to air.

Those rumors started because someone asked Ausiello if The OC would get another season. His answer was that it has good enough numbers that it would on a network like CW, but not on Fox. But I'm pretty sure he wasn't talking about it actually being picked up by CW.

I doubt The CW will pick up The O.C. The show is over.

Argh. Just when it was starting to become good again.

Oh well, at least the show is going to go out swinging.

This is unfortunate considering the dramatic shift in quality The O.C. has had this season, but at least it was given ample time so that Josh can give it a proper sendoff and not some hurried together episode.

Wouldn't mind Seth and Summer going to Tahiti, and Ryan going to Berkley and the final shot be of a Cohen + 1 photograph on the mantle or something.

In an interview with Ausiello on tvguide.com, Josh Schwartz says that he is really going to give the show a proper sendoff, with closure being provided for all the major characters and an ending that will leave fans of the show who have been watching since the beginning very satisfied.

Oh, and a good parallel to this show in terms of syndication rights is Everwood. That show lasted 89 episodes and was cancelled by its network despite quite a bit of lobbying from fans. However, it still got picked up for syndication and airs every day on ABC Family.

OC's biggest problem was that it had no patience. When you run through entire arcs in like 4 episodes, you're bound to run out of ideas. In its case they went through everything in the first season, which was great... but had nowhere to go after that but bland repetition. Furthermore they went through far too many characters, they seemed to introduce new ones and dump them the next month, they should've just stayed with Luke, Anna, and Oliver and built on them for a while. Most of the characters on the show never got enough care or depth, they were used for the glossy storylines and then were kicked out as soon as that arc was passed on for a new one. Instead of running through as many new ideas and storylines as they could to bring into the show, they needed to vastly slow down the pace, and work with what they already had.

By the way The OC isn't going to the CW, but Schwartz is: http://www.variety.com/article/VR111795 ... 0&cs=1&p=0 Has a new show called Gossip Girls, based on the popular book series.

Lobbying had a big hand in Everwood's fate all right, it was the reason it didn't make it. It had a bit, the competition(Mars and Tree Hill) had much much more.
