Do you think that they intentionally moved Die Hard to July 4th so it wont be that close to Fantastic Four's release date since it was supposed to come out two weeks after that Ya to me it made no sense to release another big movie like LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD two weeks after F4:ROTSS. Hence the release date change. Oh F4:ROTSS won't release day and date everywhere. It will be spread out releasing in june, july, august and september. only spider-man 3 and POTC 3 are going to release day and date everywhere. Maybe Transformers too but i am not sure. Harry Potter will get released everywhere opening day. GOF was as well. I don't think it matters much with Die Hard it will probably do about 80 million max regardless. hmm so 3 movies are relasing worldwide on the date of their us release. 1 might
In some countries (mostly European countries like mine) movies open on Thursday, not Friday, so when a movie opens day and date everywhere, it's actually a day earlier than US premiere date.

I think Fantastic Four and Simpsons have perfect release dates considering the competition.
Die Hard was ok where it was. The move to July 4th would devestate it.
BTW - Disney apparently is expecting Ratatouillie to fall well bellow Cars at the BO. So alot of our $170m-ish predictions could be on song.

Same here

I don't think it moved considering all the sites I go to still have the release date listed as June 29. The official site also lists June 29 as the release date.

Exactly. I could see it making under 175 million, easy.

I'm not sold that July 4th is the date, in fact I'll bet it's not. How many people (outside this forum) will remember June 29th over the next few months? Let me put it this way, which is better at any time over the next 5 months if your date is June 29th:
Bob: There's a new Die Hard movie coming out.
John: When?
Bob: I don't remember.
Or,
Bob: There's a new Die Hard movie coming out.
John: When?
Bob: July 4th
Once the TV spots start the fans will know the exact date anyway. So, my guess is that it's a smart marketing move rather than a real release date.
Actually, I'd bet my life that DH4 won't open on July 4th.

I'm sure you would never have to worry about any of us taking you up on that, should DH4 actually come out July 4th....but, I would never bet my life on the B.O. even if I was simply betting that "Pirates 3 would make a lot of money."

Re: Die Hard 4 release strategy is 100% RETARDED!
Tuukka wrote: Wasn't there a thread already for this? I couldn't find it. This news is already a couple of weeks old, but it's worthy oof discussion:
"Live Free or Die Hard" was originally set to release on June 29th, 2007 which is a week before the release of "Transformers" on July 4th, 2007. Now according to 20th Century Fox & FirstShowing.net, they're moving the release date of "Live Free or Die Hard" to July 4th as well which will pit it against "Transformers" in the same weekend.
To be honest, this is one of the most retarded release strategies EVER. I really want to see DH4 and the teaser was cool. But still, there is very little doubt that Transformers is gonna be a much bigger film. Both films are going more or less exactly for the same audience, so there is no counter-programming potential here.
They basicly just cut off dozens of millions from the overall gross of Dh4. What a stroke of genius. I could have seen it as a 35 million opener, but against Transformers it will barely reach low 20's, and the direct competition from Tranformers throughout the run is gonna kill DH4.
What the #### are they thinking?
Honestly??? I'll tell you what FOX was thinking: Their apparently very confident in the story and script for Die Hard 44 and feel Transformers is probably too much like Starship Troopers and are willing to take their chances going up against it.. It also seems to me that Die Hard 44 or LIVE FREE DIE LAUGHING is being more aimed at adults cause of an aging Bruce Willis visiting this character again than Transformers looks which is based off of a cartoon of the 90's or whenever it came out aimed at kids and small teens.. Personally, I see Transformers not doing well at all and believe it or not, Die Hard also not doing as well either.. Both will surprisingly suck out loud..

July 4th is more likely to be canceled by Bush then DH4 is to open on the day.

I can already see Fox blatently lying like this. "Due to overwhelming demand, Die Hard will open a week earlier in theaters. Its new date is June 29. We are very happy that due to the amount of presales and buzz. We are moving forward with that date" said Fox spokesman. Like their intention wasnt already June 29 to begin with. Heck BKB already bought into the hype about FF & the Silver Surfer moving away from its July 4th spot since he said it will "buy more" time for them to work on their FX

I think you are mistaken. Fox originally intended to release Die Hard 4 on July 4th and made the teaser trailer based on that. But after Transformers announced its July 4 release date, Fox moved its release date up to June 29 without time to change the teaser.

Nope. Transformers have always had that 4th of July date since early last year. Heck Fox even moved Fantastic Four 2 out of the way because of that

Transformers had that date locked for quite a bit, Live Free or Die Hard was announced in July with the Transformers date in mind. It picked June 29.
