The movie was always interesting but it never really clicked with me. I completely loathed the friends and boyfriend due to their clunkiness as characters. Meryl Streep was good and often bitingly funny and Hathaway was good as always. My main problem was that none of the characters changed or at least stayed in a changed state.

C/C+, but it had potential to be much higher.

Well, this is no high art, but still a perfectly entertaining flick even for a guy. Meryl Streep delivers a brillaitn performance that has more layers than it first seems. Truly, her character is mostly over the top, but Streep manages to put some sentimental and more serious touches to it than meets the eye at first. Anne Hathaway is decent in her role, but completely overshadowed by Streep's character. Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci delivers very nice little turns, but both of Hathaway's blokes (Baker and Grenier) are very bland. The ending is of course expected and fairly clichéd, but so is the whole idea of the film to begin with and it never disturbes the fun. I had my fair share of laughs and grins, most of them thanks to Streep's wonderful performance which will deservingly be nominated for an Oscar.

I had really high hopes....and was disappointed. Some of it was funny, but all the scenes of Anne Hathaway's home life (Tracie Thoms, Adrien Grenier, etc.) were such a draaaaaaaaag. They were unnecessary and destructive; they only made the movie more cliched and run-of-the-mill. It was a shame.

So ultimately....a missed opportunity.

If Streep really gets Oscar attention for this I will be really pissed.

Get used to the idea. It's a-coming.

I have to say, while Meryl was funny...she didn't exactly blow me away. Not that she had much of a chance; the movie has the compulsive need to cut back to Adrien Grenier looking all pissy. Hey, buddy: she's got a demanding job. Deal with it. Jesus.

I'd agree that Andy's "friends" are a waste. In fact, I begin fidgeting while they are on screen. I still maintain that any moment inside Runway - especially those with Streep - were brilliant, and for that I really, really love this film. It has great rewatchability.

I thought Streep was great, but even having said that as much as I wanted to love this film...I just couldn't. Really, not that great in my opinion, it just fell flat in so many areas. Yeah, it had its moments, but there weren't as often as they could have/should have been.

Confession: I might be one of the only people who doesn't really like Streep.

I mean, she's a good actress, but I don't consider her one of the very best of all time or anything from what I've seen, this was another in a line of "oh, that's it?" reactions from me after seeing her.

for a number of years, I thought she was Glenn Close and vice versa.

Both wonderful actresses, both quite different people.

When are you going to see this?

I thought Streep gave a good performance, no question there, but it seems to me that she gets way too much praise for the part just because she's Merryl Streep.

And they smell like wet bologna.

I wouldn't know, I've never been that close to Meryl Streep...

Well...

My aunt met Meryl Streep at church (I think) once and she was apparently like the sweetest woman in the entire world. And my aunt did not mention bologna.

Haha, she was probably just masking the smell with Chanel No. 5.

I am displeased that Meryl Streep's good name has been associated with bologna.

poor meryl.
Wet Bologna sounds like a super romantic comedy about a chef working in an itallian restraunt though.
Starring Meryl Streep and Harrison Ford of course.

Wait, I always assumed old women smelled like old tuna and formaldehyde?

Streep and Close are the best. Ever.

Haven't you people ever seen Dangerous Liaisons?

This film suuuuucks.

Well, not really, it was okaaaaay, just not my type. Streep's terrific, the rest of the cast is not ('cept maybe Blunt, I liked her character). It's so boring and predictable, though. What's so good about it besides a performance or two?

I gave it a shot.
