Quote:
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is a 2001 fantasy-drama film directed by Peter Jackson based on the first volume of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings (1954–1955). Set in Middle-earth, the story tells of the Dark Lord Sauron, who is seeking the One Ring. The Ring has found its way to the young hobbit Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood). The fate of Middle-earth hangs in the balance as Frodo and eight companions form the Fellowship of the Ring, and begin their journey to Mount Doom in the land of Mordor, the only place where the Ring can be destroyed.

Released on 10 December 2001, the film was highly acclaimed by critics and fans alike, especially as many of the latter judged it to be the most sufficiently faithful adaption of the original story out of Jackson's film trilogy. It was a major box office success, earning over $870 million worldwide, and the second highest-grossing film of 2001 in the U.S. and worldwide (behind Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) which made it the 5th highest-grossing film ever at the time. Today it is the 20th highest-grossing worldwide film of all time. It won four Academy Awards and five BAFTAs, including Best Film and Best Director BAFTA awards. The Special Extended DVD Edition was released on 12 November 2002 and is now discontinued. In 2007, The Fellowship of the Ring was voted number 50 on the American Film Institute's list of 100 greatest American films. The AFI also voted it the second greatest fantasy film of all time during their AFI's 10 Top 10 special.

The most boring of the LOTR series to me, and my least liked one. This one is still good, though, as it establishes some great characters, but doesn't have a lot of memorable scenes in it in my opinion.

Grade: 92.0 , A-

The best of the series, sets the story going even with amazing action scenes. Has the most concise script: no multiple storylines here, just one central story. The best acting also takes place in this one; McKellen, Mortensen and Bean are all excellent. The whole scene in Moria is fantastic and possibly my favourite moment in the entire trilogy. The end isn't as epic as in the other two, but it's still a great finish to the film. As with the entire trilogy, the technical aspects are outstanding: everything from the cinematography to the makeup to the score is excellent. A perfect start to a brilliant trilogy.

I haven't seen Return of the King in a LONG time but I'd still say that Fellowship is my favorite. This film was actually 1 of the first films that I loved based on the story and actually matured my movie tastes. :D Just an exciting movie, and the cast is fantastic.

My favourite of the series, though I love each one in their own unique way!
The EE's for all three are far superior than the theatrical releases!

Just magickal from the shrouded narrative beginning to the explosive end, and the Boromir death stance is the best I have ever seen in film!

99.9%

It's almost perfect. I need to watch ROTK again to see which one is actually the best of the three. It's a crime that Ian McKellan didn't win the Oscar for this. I rate this an A, only because I don't believe in A+ when grading movies.

Immensly overrated, I liked the other two better. LOTR in whole is a masterpiece, though.

Listen, I have not read the books. I will not read the books.

That taken into account, I fell asleep during this movie. Sorry, but I can only appreciate the SFX and sights to a point. Beautiful film, blah story. The only other one I have seen is TTT and I would give it a B-, btw.

I'm spending the next three days watching all three extended editions. I am almost finished Fellowship, and I must say I forgot how great this movie was.

To me the stand-out of the trilogy. The way we are introduced into this world and those characters is simply amazing. I love how it takes it time and I have no problem with it being open-ended. The extended edition is even better. It may not have the battles like its sequels, but this is extraordinary piece of storytelling (A+)

This is my second favorite of the series. It doesn't have the battle scenes, but it has more story than any of them, and it's an excellent start to one of the best trilogies ever made. An excellent movie, and one of my all time favorites.

A+
