The Departed vs Borat....Which movie is going to be bigger?
Both movies did great in their opening weekends, have amazing WOM, and a score over 90% at RT.
So, what movie do you think will be bigger?
I'm going with Borat as I'm seeing The Departed topping out with 140m while IMO, Borat is a lock for 150m.

I think Departed is going to have 20-25 percents drops from here, mabey even some in the teens , so with an oscar boost added to that 180-200m. the only way I see droping over 30% is after a Holiday weekend.
I think borat is headed for about the same 180-200m
should be close
I want The Departed to Win

It's too early to tell, any decision at this point is merely speculation, but I personally want The Departed to come out on top. If it wins BP I think it will, although Borat could make anywhere from 70-175 million at this point, whereas The Departed's range isn't quite as wide.

Borat, because it will make more the first two weekends than The Departed in its first two weekends. Also, Thanksgiving weekend will give Borat more of a boost than The Departed.
Borat - $150
The Departed - $145

I think a more interesting question is what will gross higher, Casino Royale or Borat.
The Departed is already on its way to $120-130 million without an Oscar push, but with it, it should do quite a bit and beat Borat easily. Casino Royale, on the other hand, isn't looking too hot right now, IMO.

I think Casino Royale looks alot better to the non-Internet audience, many of whom have been bashing Craig since he was cast. Casino Royale I see doing incredibly well, and possible run at $180 m.

I seriously doubt Casino Royale can get to $180m. More like $130-40m especially with Deja Vu in its second weekend.
The Departed - $130-40m ($160m+ with awards recognition)
Borat - $130m minimum

The Departed will win out.
Borat deserves all its success but I think people are over-estimating its final gross.

way over estimating. I know i was way wrong anout Borat, but any one thinking Borat will hit 145 + are just to in too in love with the movie. I see 115-120 max. I mean what the hell are some of you guys thinking. The Blair Witch project nor Farinhiet 9/11 could come close to that.( I know they were in the summer ad this is winter but still the movie will get hit from every demograhic in the coming weeks, and remember except for Scary movie, every mega successful 150 mil+ gross out comedy had a romantic aspect to to draw to draw women in as well (Wedding Crashers, There's Something about Mary) no way mostly males by them selves drive this to 150+ not with Casino Royale 2 weeks away)I am very dissapointed, the fanboy side of some of you has really fucked up your projections. Normally your projections are correct and more importantly accurate but those are way off.

The Departed just dropped 18.8% this weekend and you think it will only do $131m?

Borat - $150 The Departed - $145
updated based on weekend estimates and more thought:
Borat - $170 (better than The Waterboy, but can't see it beating Elf just yet)
The Departed - $157 (after Mystic River had a $7.8 million weekend, it made $65 million more)
Both movie will make the top ten of 2006.
