Yeah, again, very suspicious. Rolling Stone gives it 3.5 out of 4, even according to RT. That is an 88%...EXACTLY what he gave it at MC. THR, Variety, and The Village Voice are all higher grades than Rolling Stone. Richard Roeper was a rave.
How exactly does any of that translate to a 7.8 rating?

BTW, how do you know Newsdays review will be negative?
From NSFC.
And I just realized how bad Babel's scores are there.

Babel got a fresh review at RT by the way, after a long long stretch of nothing, 9 and 2 now. Still pretty decent, but the reviews in xiayun's link are pretty ominous. How many of those critics are RT accepted?

Not sure, but those links are all available for each film on the main chart.

See I can get how a movie can get a 0, but how does a movie get a 2

No reviews have been added, but Flags' overall rating mysteriously dropped from 6.8 to 6.7.

"Character development is of secondary importance to narrative and theme. As a result, we never really get to know any of the film's protagonists." - James Berardinelli
Xiayun was correct in predicting that Berardinelli's review would not be a 4 star rave because he didn't post it on Monday. Interesting. That's kinda like when Ebert and Roeper does the 1 week early review only for the hyped films that they both give big thumbs up to.
PEACE, Mike.

Yeah thats very interesting. I guess if they really love a film - they want to let everyone know and help build up the buzz. Im sure for something like Flags they'd rather give a late and low key negative so as not to hurt the film all that much.

haha actualy I hadnt read the review - I just assumed it was negative from the above. Then I realised all he said was "not a 4 star". In the end its no big deal - a decent 3 star review, but nothing special either.

It's a rather muted review for a 3-star. For example, he has more positive things to say in The Queen's review, also a 3-star. Here he mentioned the lack of character development and no acting standout, and he used the word "interesting" quite a few times but nothing exactly rave.

I'm hard pressed to think of a WWII film with an acting standout.
Vita è bella, The Great Escape, Bridge On The River Kwai, Schindler's List, there aren't many.

Yeah its an ok 3 star but nothing special. And he gives many 3 stars - so im sure their are levels within these categories if he decided to rank them further.

Running With Scissors looks like it's going to make a very quick exit from the race for all involved. It's being charted now. Oh my...
The Prestige is making a mini comeback.

I've never seen a guy have this much pure hate for Nolan's work
Quote: The Prestige is the biggest pile of incomprehensible gibberish to hit the screen since M. Night Shyamalan’s Lady in the Water. This is the latest product of loopy brothers Christopher and Jonathan Nolan, whose libidinous fantasies work overtime to turn paranoia, confusion and insanity into art movies like the despicable Memento. On his own, brother Christopher also directed the paralyzing Batman Begins, the worst Batman movie ever made, which was also the only pretentious Batman movie ever made. Dedicated to the premise that no movie that makes sense is worth making at all, these hacks have dumped their worst faults into The Prestige. Worse yet, it’s a whacking bore.
He just whacked Nolan's three biggest films in one paragraph.

Oh, he did not just go there.
Flags looks fine now I'd say, probably will get a nomination barring a snub. The early 50% threw me off, but it's all clear right now.

The early words were terrible, but then it seemed to start coming around a little bit, with some 3-star reviews here and there, and people were talking about Bening's chance again, especially as supporting. Now it's dead again.

Premiere's review is added to RT to bring the rating down to 53%.
