A Series of Unfortunate Events was wonderful. It was the most beautiful film I have seen this year in terms of visuals. Wonderfully shot and great cinematography. The narration was used appropriately as well. It did not interfere, it added a mood. The child actors are brilliant! They are amazing. Especially Sunny, the youngest. Amazing what she could with her face and eyes, and she was only, what, 1 year old? Incredible. Jim Carrey was great as usual, and did very well at using his wide range of fun acting, yet keeping it under control. He got a good voice down too. The "Hello, hello, hello...." was creepy. Great stuff. Nice to have Carrey and Streep in this film, plus some appearances from Hoffman and even the voice of Jude Law! At first I was thinking "man, I recognize this voice...", and then after a few minutes I realized it was Jude Law's voice as the narrator. A pleasant surprise.
