Screen Counts and Crowd Reports for August 4-6
Well, so far, one of the two theaters nearby has announced their films for Friday and they're not playing either The Night Listener or The Descent.
I'll kill people, GTA-style, if The Descent isn't playing nearby.

Just a little interesting info. from notfabio about screen counts for the weekend...
Quote: 3 Talladega Nights 1 Barnyard 1 The Descent 1 Night Listener
As expected for TALLADEGA NIGHTS. Recent 3 screen bookings for comedies BREAK UP (the highest non-sequel 3 screen booking), LITTLE MAN, NACHO LIBRE. LITTLE MAN being an African American primary demographic comedy got a bit better than most places.
Also expected for BARNYARD and NIGHT LISTENER. BARNYARD could see low 20's if it really, really broke out, but where it is tracking is more reasonable, ANTBU was 2 screens.
Not good for THE DESCENT. It's possible for it to see somewhere between 10-14 if it breaks out, but odds are more likely it falls below 10.
Oh, and... Quote: Meet the Fockers is the only comedy booked 3 screens to beat 40 million in over 7 years..

What the fuck? I'm seeing a lot of theaters that only have Talladega Nights, not the three other openers.

How does that compare to past comedy openings? How many did Anchorman get, do you remember?

Hmm, I have a feeling The Descent will get less than 1,800 theatres....

Now that actual times are listed almost everywhere, The Descent and Barnyard are both at a lot more locations then it looked like (The Descent is in at least as many as Serenity was, which is probably the only other smaller theater count film I've looked through to see how many pages it had). Still, only Ricky Bobby has more then one screen anywhere, not that it's all that surprising.

Pre-sales update: Lexington, KY (48 hours before open):
Talladega Nights: 14 (Comparison: Click had 10)
The Descent: 4 (Comparison: The Cave had 2)
Solid for Talladega. No pre-sales yet for Barnyard or Night Listener.

Getting only 1 screen at Scott's theater is pretty terrible. A PTA below $2,000 for Night Listener is highly likely.

4 prints of Anchorman. For a high profile comedy, this is nothing beyond the norm.

Talledega Nights is actually coming opening night to my town, which is something usually reserved for the mega blockbusters. Spiderman, Shrek 2, ROTS, Da Vinci Code, Pirates 2, but also we got Fun With Dick and Jane last winter pretty randomly. I'm pretty surprised, as it's normally a rare occurence, and it just happened for Pirates. Hopefully it becomes a more regular thing now, waiting weeks for movies sucks...

Barnyard has me a little worried. It's the first film since 2002's Country Bears that hasn't sold at least a single presale ticket at my theater. Typically, we usually see at least 2, and often more for an anticipated kid's flick. Cody Banks 2 was an exception, as we only sold 1 for that. At this time last week, even Ant Bully posted 4 presales. If Barnyard is going to break out, it will surely surprise me.
