Why would PotC 3 be worse than PotC2? PotC is acting a lot like LotR. Near-perfect quality and leggy first movie, frontloaded but less good "middle child." Third movie is on track to be the RotK equivalent.
(minus the Oscars of course  )

I think it will also depend on the release date for POTC3. Having Shrek open the weekend before will definately not help it. Regardless it should atleast visit the same neighbourhood as POTC2 in terms of final gross. May and early June weekdays are also not as strong as Juy weekdays.
