If one checks the BOM chart, among all the films that broke the opening-weekend record over the years, the most frontloaded one is The Lost World, and that only had its opening accounted for 31.5% of its total gross. I don't see a multiplier lower than 3.0.

But that was in another era with less frontloading. heh, I'm arguing against my side here.

It's still a highly anticipated sequel, that a lot of people rushed out to. And 135 mil is a shitload of money.

A Shrek 2 multiplier is impossible.

All the record-breakers since The Lost World have had better legs.

Yeah, exactly. That one was unusually frontloaded.

I don't have an excuse. I'm still predicing the same multiplier as I was prior to the weekend (3x). That'd give it $406 million, which is what I predicted in the "Top 10 Movies of 2006" thread.

Then you have always been going too low on the legs. ;)

Don't forget that Saturday and Sunday were equally underestimated in the beginning.

Well, if the official numbers have it breaking 100 mill, then so be it. I don't buy it, but hey, that's what it says, that's what it says.

Congrats to Pirates.

It also beat Shrek 2 for the highest Sunday ever by just $0.4 million. I still think it's a little fishy, but whatever, it's official numbers now. Fantastic numbers.

I think it's fudged, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter because we took ROTS' $50 million opening day for a fact as well, so...

Congrats to Pirates.

Yeah, I was silent but I thought the estimates could be fudged, but questioning it after these "official actuals" come out is opening up a larger can of worms about Hollywood's accounting in general.

But actuals are fudged all the time. Look at Cars and Signs. There are 6 between 50m-50.8m, but none between 49m-50m. There are 7 at 40m-40.5m, but only one at 39.5m-40m. There are 10 at 30m-30.5m (9 actually under 30.2m) and only 4 at 29.5m-30m. It goes on....

Amazing for Pirates, but I'm still thinking that it will end up around 360m.

Very good for cars, I have four wishes wishes for the summer:

1 Cars to overtake X-men 3
2 X-Men 3 to fail to beat WotW
3 Great OW for Miami Vice
4 WTC to be a great movie, nothing else matters

You still have absolutely no proof either way that those are "fudged" numbers, if you did, which ones? Even if your theory holds water the Pirates numbers still could be completely legitimate. If they are accepted by the accountants and the stock holders of these companies then there is really nothing that can be said. If Warner Bros. isn't going to launch a huge complaint challenging the numbers and at the end of the year nothing illegal has happened then were do we begin?
