How ironic.
How big of a drop is that for Superman?

While it is a humongous number for Pirates (and certainly exceeding my expectations), I just can't wait to see DP07's reaction to it and an explanation as to why it didn't make $70+ million opening day.
Pretty bad for Supes, but can't say I didn't expect that. Looks like a $22 million weekend to me. Perfectly in line with my suggested 58% drop.

Oh... and I suppose that's good for Pirates.
I guess.

The most amazing thing in all of this I think is that Disney's biggest weekend could very well be DOUBLED this weekend. For a studio that has been around so long, and releases so many films, that's staggering...

I think POTC2 should make around $141 million for the weekend.

"This number obviously doesn't include midnight sales!"
If the number holds, the real winner here is BJ. I still think the legs are going to be drastically less than he's anticipating, but he stuck with that 58m number for a long time.

Right on target for Dead Man's Chest. I see $137 million.
Plus it looks like the holdovers didn't get spillover business, and that Dead Man's Chest didn't rejuvenate the box office, like The Incredibles did.

BJ must be crying in his pillow right now.

That would be amazing if true for Pirates, if that happens I am guessing it could make 130-140..

And DP was off by a whole million with his 140 prediction he's been making for the past several months.

I'd give DP07 props if he didn't go completely bat-shit crazy yesterday.

With his $177 million prediction?

If true, that'd be really something. I considered $50+ million unlikely, so... stupid me.

I love this kind of opening in relation to the Derby. I'm going to be 10 million off, and yet my average is going to be something like 93%!?

No uber-blockbuster this year? Yeah right.
POTC2 breakdown
OD: 55m. New record Sat: 46m (16.4% drop). New record. Sun: 39m (15.3% drop). New record.
OW: 140m. New record
IM: 2.545
HOWEVER...I think ROTS 4-day record won't be broken.
If it did what you state and it might not do that well, might do better who really knows we are basing all this on the conjecture of a rumour. Anyways, it might beat ROTS, because it will be a Summer Monday and movies that open this huge have great drops on Monday. Spiderman 2 did $12m on its 7th day after it had already made $180m and this appeals more to young kids than SM2. A $19-20m Monday would be more likely than not.

I saw him predicting 140 million for a long time now. The last day or two he went goofy, trying to build excitement and making all sorts of outrageous claims but I didn't take them seriously.

I'll bet anyone Disney greenlights a sequel tomorrow and is filming by August for a Summer 2007 release date.

No way Sunday drops that much in Summer with a movie this anticipated and well liked...
