For 400 mill? Hindsite says sure. I think it was a lock for 300, at least that's what i thought. I didn't think it would do 400.

You thought they were all locks for 400 mill? Cool. You were right on one of them.

I thought we were talking about 300m. Anyway, 400m is the new 300m.

Wow, I don't remember people predicting a billion domestci, although I don't doubt your recollection. They must have been Star Wars loonies.

And Empire decreased from Star Wars.

Okay, I know the tracking has it at a billion dollars OW and then the loonies think it will make another billion throughout its run, but really, aren't we getting a bit crazy here? 350-400-450-500, those are huge numbers.

I think 350m is realistic. The first one lived on wom, which is how it managed 300m, it sold over 13m on dvd, is in the top 10 on Yahoo movies and top 250 on IMDb. This is gonna be huge, 300m is a lock, so i'd say 350m is very reasonable.

I think 350 is in hte realm of Possibility. It may just be me but I felt more hype for Spiderman 2, Sith, MxR, RoTK, and even X3.
The only indication this will do well is on the net. I have not heard anyone talk about this film. I don't see the marketing for it(but I don't watch TV). Supposedly it has the highest rated Superbowl teaser however so did WoTW last year it doesn't mean anything.

What I am saying is all the hype I see for PoTC is in this chat room, I see no real world hype, very few posters, very few people discussing the movie in RL compared to the other movies I have mentioned. When I say little I mean little. I only know of one person wanting to see this movie. The people I know in the movie theaters are expecting it to be a huge weekend but they don't have high pre orders for this type of film. I live in a major metropolitian area and I have seen very little in the way of advertising to let people who don't watch TV or surf the net it is coming out. I don't I just get the sense that the hype is overblown on hte net.

It's the same as me. i am not hearing a lot of the yeoman saying how excited they are to go see pirates. Does that mean it is going to disappoint? No, of course not, but 400 is ridiculous.

I still wouldn't be surprised to see this pull in a 90 mill OW. I guess I, like Redspear just don't feel the hype. Now if 90 mill is a shitty OW then we live in a sad world. Having said that, I'll stick with my ow of 107.5.

Sith sure had a lot more hype. Remember that article about a lot of employees not going to work on the day the would release?

Again, this isnt some geeked out fanboy film, it's a family friendly blockbuster.

Sith is a perfect example of a film that had everything going for it...massively hyped, record OD, record first three days and loyal following, great WOM and the last film in a beloved series. AND YET IT DID NOT MAKE 400 MILL. Same can be said for ROTK. 400 mill is very very difficult to obtain.

Funny you say that, some weeks ago (read: before noticing that the non-Internet buzz wasn't that great), people here were saying that PotC2 has just as much of a fanbase as LotR and HP.

It's fanbase is just as big, but it doesnt mean it's as hardcore as the LotR or HP fanbase.
