heh I think every studio is now copying MI3 by playing their ads way too early. MI3 had ads way back in early march and X-3 followed through with ads in early April, followed by SR with ads playing in early may, I now even see POTC2 ads playing 3 days ago. I guess MV has jumped in the bandwagon

DP07 said this would need TV spots that were significantly better then the trailer to prevent it from bombing. I agreed, and sure enough two prime examples are already online. http://www.themoviebox.net/movies/2006/ ... railer.php

MIAMI VICE won't bomb anymore than HEAT or COLLATERAL did.. It'll have the same type of audience..

But, it has a much larger budget.

Its budget is in the 170m - 180m range
Channel4.com
Quote: Mann also revealed the film's budget to the same reporters - $180 million, though many commentators speculate it's actually risen above $200 million. Shocking, considering it's a police procedural starring two borderline A-listers that was greenlit at $120 million.
And Wikipedia has the budget @ 170m.
Unless SR flops big time (as in 130m total), I definitely see MV being the biggest bomb of the year.

Yeah, on-loacation filming certainly made the budget skyrocket, but I still see it being fairly more successful than Poseidon, so it won't be the biggest bomb of the year.

Wow 180? As a movie fan I have a big party in my pants to see how Mann brings that budget on screen
As a producer my party maybe wouldnt be that fun.....

No way its 180 million. Really expensive movies usually have CGI/FX, time period costuming and exotic location shots to make up the huge budget, MV doesnt fit that description. It would only have a 180 million budget if they actually blew up a yacht containing 600 kgs of actual cocaine

Most of the budget probably went to Colin Farrell's 400 hookers

Oh fuck, 170-180 million? How is that possible? The movie looks cheaper than Collateral to me, and there's no Tom Cruise.

The two stars' salaries combined is $30 million at most. I don't see how another $150 million was required.

The studios really should know better. The budget is higher then it ever should have been.

Holy crap, Thats 3x Collateral's budget.
It's pretty obvious why it's so high, they had to pay Phil Collins about 120m to use " In the Air Tonight "
No but seriously, it's probably because the cgi use is at a minimum. Which sky rockets the budget, kinda like Batman Begins. Which makes me happy but should make the studio a very sad panda.

By the way, I'm now thinking:
18/55
Beats Poseidon as the biggest flop budget-wise of the year.

Rated R for strong violence, language and some sexual content.
I knew it wouldn't be PG-13. It's Michael Mann.

You know...recently, I've been getting this feeling that it'd actually do quite well. It is already getting decent promotion, the brand name is well-known and Foxx/Farrell looks like a good buddy cop pairing. I could see this getting an opening up to $40 million if it is advertised heavily. One thing it lacks is female appeal, but if Bad Boys II can open to $40+ million, this should do at least $30 million.

Michael Mann's the man.
Opening Weekend: $34 million
Total: $129 million
Multiplier: 3.8
I'm feeling this could do a mini-Collateral legs.

I'm genuinely worried that this will become such a bomb that it will hurt Mann's career.
Really looking forward to it though.

Really not sure why this would be a bomb anymore than COLLATERAL or HEAT were, which they weren't.. For name recognition alone, this will do just as well as his other films.. Mann does have his audience..

You realize this costs around $180 million?

Sure.. 30 Million went for the Speed boat their in and the other 150 Million was divided between the 2 Stars combined with the FX.. Foxx probably net 20 Million for this and Farrel about 10 Million.. It'll do fine and why wouldn't it?? The Plot looks good and gritty, there's Hot Bitches in the movie, Suitcases of Coke and Hot White Armani Suits AND MORE BITCHES.. The kids this summer can have their Pirates and the Adults will have their Bitches.. Oh, and it's Rated R For STRONG VIOLENCE.. I'm there along with a Parking Lot Report to..

Yeah, but...you know that it needs to make $200+ million domestically to have a good shot at making its money back? You see it making this much? Twice as much as Collateral...
