Here's another reason why I think Superman Returns will disappoint some of you, or why I said there's a lack of anticipation or buzz...

On the Yahoo Buzz Chart, you'll notice that currently, X-Men: The Last Stand is #3 (out of 20 spots) with a nice score. But, next to the title, it shows the number of days it's been on the chart. 212 days. Now, look waaaay on the bottom. You'll notice Superman Returns at #18 with a low score. Look at the number of days it's been on the chart. 29. And, we're not talking about consecutive days on this chart, but the overall number of days on the BUZZ chart. Assuming that X3 doesn't leave the chart up 'till the day of its release, it'll have a total of 239 days by the time it releases. If Superman Returns stays on the chart until the day of release (and, considering how low it is right now, it could fall off and jump back on many, many times), it'll have a total of 91 days. What I'm trying to say is that over the 212 days that X3 had buzz, why didn't Superman Returns? If the fanbase is so excited about the film, or some of you suspect that the "masses" will come out in large numbers, where's the buzz, just two months prior to release? Where has the buzz been for the past year? Where's the buzz at all?

Now, obviously, once the trailer releases and as we approach the release date, the score will jump a lot higher, and the number of days on the chart will continue to grow, but the fact that Superman's number of days on the buzz chart is only 14% of X3's number of days says a lot about how "anticipated" the film really is.

...or, perhaps all the people who would be increasing the buzz on that chart are too busy buying Tropicana bottles and getting pumped for Superman by buying Target's full supply of "S" t-shirts, right?

Um, I just said that the buzz would go up once the trailer is released...?

Obviously, the whole point of my post was missed.

Technically, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest falls under this category as well.

Otherwise, I can't remember.

Well thats why it didnt open incredibly huge

And anyways, Dead Man's Chest teaser was more of a respectable trailer then what SR showed.

I hope that's footage shot just for that commercial, or horribly grainy because that's.......................eh. Now that I think about, it has to be shot just for that commercial, or it's from an unfished effects shot. It doesn't even come close to matching the effects that were shown briefly in the teaser.

Yes, I know. Yahoo Buzz Chart isn't always a great tracking indicator, but it's just something to point out.

Neither of those are tracking indicators at all. Yahoo Buzz Chart has been a good indicator of unexpected films surprising in the box-office and such. AICN's excitement for Superman Returns is not an indicator.

zing, how bout telling us what you think of the footage? do you like it?

what weird magnus is that there are guys saying they work for cokre and have seen these for the u.s., but i think their lying as look at he way the dates printed on it. not american style. plus variety has confimed pepsis doing u.s. and i doubt theyd have 2 rival mega companies doing the same film in the same country, though i wouldnt mind it for supes promos.

magnus what do you think of the footage?

Magnus, Silent Hill and Stick It are on there because at this moment, those are the films that are buzzed about. They just came out and did well; of course they're going to be on the chart. It's easy to call the indicator bad when you've never used it, but people like DP07 and xiayun know that the chart often is a good indicator, but sometimes, it's inconsistant.

excel, what footage are you referring to? The small .gif on this page? If it's that, it doesn't look that bad, but I'll wait for a full trailer before giving my thoughts.

Yeah, from what I've heard, Disney's closely related to Coke, so I'd expect to see Coke--if it has any movie tie-ins at all--to have PotC2 tie-ins....

I agree that it doesn't makes sense to have two rival companies doing the same tie-in. It'd be like Burger King and McDonalds both doing a tie-in.

I wasn't asked about what I thought of the footage, but I'll give it anyway: "meh". It's not bad; looks pretty good, in fact. But it's nothing new or exciting to me; plus there's something about the lighting or something that makes it look very obviously fake.... I can't quite pinpoint what it is. But it's all "been there, done that"; sure, it's a vast improvement from '70s graphics, but with all the other superhero movies out in the past few years, there's nothing in this part of the trailer that really makes it stand out--to me--from the comic book movie crowd.

Joy

Superman Returns is a fanboy film it should be on the top of every tracker online if something like Batman Begins can stay in the top 10 ever since it came out.

You dont compare it to POTC 2 & MI3, you compare it to X-Men, Spider-Man, and Batman. Those first two films arent fanboy films, like Superman is suppose to be.
