It looks fantastic from the trailer and TV spots along with the overwhelmingly positive reviews. I hope it does well enough to expand as I really want to see it.

Your thoughts?

I'm surprised LGF is releasing this on only 2 screens this weekend, yet giving that Mexican Melodrama over 200 screens. Huh?

The film looks brilliant so I hope it does well so it expands. I've heard Ellen Page is superb as the girl. I've also heard that she wore a wig for the role because she had shaved her head for another role.

Well the subject matter will turn off most viewers, I dont remember a movie about pedophilers chasing after 14 years ever doing well at the BO. Didnt the Crush and Lolita do badly in the US?

Heavy trailer showing here. Strong responses from crowds, including myself. It'll do well.

65 million.

There is this particular sequence in the film. The crowd I saw this with ... half loved it .. and half were repulsed by the thought.

I had to walk out of the theater for about 5 minutes just so I don't throw up. Nothing graphic actually takes place on the screen but you know whats happening and you can hear noises and a people were either giving those hesitant laughs in the audience or were squirming...

oh god i feel sick again.

Patrick Wilson can tie me up anytime.

Anyway, so I hear the film turns the tables on the whole deviant-victim thing, right?

Spoiler warning. I'm warning. It'll wreck your film experience if you read this.

[spoil]The entire thing is a set up. Its really the girl whos messing with the guy. You don't wanna know what she puts him through.[/spoil]

I looked. I'm a spoiler whore; its nothing you can't really decipher from the rather obvious trailer.

Still, this looks remarkably haunting, controversial, and fabulously performed. I'm very interested.

I know what it is. A woman at the screening I was at today proceded to tell me every turn in the movie without me really asking for it. Still sounds ok in that I Spit on Your Grave kinda' way.

[spoil]If by "rape" you mean castrated, and by "kill" you mean induces him into suicide, then, yes. Its not exactly the same, but pretty damn close to the first bathtub scene.[/spoil]

As you can tell, this is still all gusswork on my part, especially about tone and whatnot, but that's what the woman told me.

I agree. He was really sexy in ANGELS IN AMERICA.

I've been highly interested in this film since hearing about the audience reaction of it at a film festival when it was announced Lionsgate picked it up. Seems like it will be quite the tasty treat.

Here are some quotes:

"Yeah, this candy is hard to handle, but at the same time it's oh so sweet."
-- Eric Campos, FILM THREAT

"Will get under your skin with an intensity on the verge of being just plain evil."
-- Edward Douglas, COMINGSOON.NET

"the entire film hinges on how Page and Wilson execute their roles. With apologies to Carly Simon, I can't imagine anybody doing it better."
-- Tony Medley, TONYMEDLEY.COM

"There's a lot more going on here than just a revenge fantasy. These are two fascinating characters, and watching them thrust and parry proves to be as impossible to turn away from as observing a grotesque roadside accident."
-- James Berardinelli, REELVIEWS

"To watch Hard Candy is, at moments, to be very afraid, but the scariest thing about it is the fury of Page's talent."
-- Owen Gleiberman, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

"A spectacular performance by teenage thesp Ellen Page elevates this disturbing slice of designer shocksploitation into a film that's impossible to dismiss on principle."
-- Todd McCarthy, VARIETY

"There is nothing sugar-coated about this taut, timely psycho-thriller."
-- Michael Rechtshaffen, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

"One of the most challenging and darkly, smartly entertaining movies of the year."
-- Scott Weinberg, EFILMCRITIC.COM

"A smart thriller ... feels like Fatal Attraction updated for the internet age."
-- Steve Rhodes, INTERNET REVIEWS

"An intense, well-acted film that deals with its alarming subject matter in an audacious way."
-- Eric D. Snider, ERICDSNIDER.COM

"This is an extremely well-made film that pushes precisely the right buttons."
-- Erik Childress, EFILMCRITIC.COM

I think this film will do quite well in limited release, possibly starting out like BRICK did, but I'm hoping they can expand it successfully. Yes it's not an incredibly easy sell, but with great buzz it could do pretty decent anyway. Hopefully they'll have some really cool TV spots that get people's attention. I really hope this comes to my theater, and if it does you can bet your ass I'll be there the first weekend. I'd love to see it with my parents . That might sound odd but I think it would be something they'd "enjoy" as well.

Anyway, from the sound of it I'm betting Ellen Page and Patrick Wilson give two of the year's best performances, especially Ellen Page. I really hope the HOSTEL DVD will have the trailer on it since I haven't seen the trailer yet.
