HDFA Ceremony (Would you vote in 90's Film Awards? POLL)

Would you (given adequate time, and given all the categories included in the HDFA, as well as 2 added categories (Best Animated Film & Best Screenplay), honestly VOTE and CONTRIBUTE in both the nomination and winner process of a 90's Decade Film A
YES, the 90's decade rocks, I would most definately support this and vote for nominees and winners! 90%  90%  [ 19 ]
NO, I'm not interested / too much work. 10%  10%  [ 2 ]

OUCH!

Bad Education
Moolaade
Central Station
Life is Beautiful

aren't going to make it,

but a boring car-commercial stylized homage to fascism is.

:disgust:

Hero got a lot of votes too. I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but even Xiayun voted for it.

PEACE, Mike.

Haha! You're right. Wow time flies. But the Bad Education, Moolaade, and Nowhere in Africa did come out after 2000. I hope Triplettes of Belleville doesn't fall into this category? Or there's a fourth!

Ok, I'm done complaining. I didn't even vote in the first round anyways.

My personal recap:

Best Score/Music
Catch Me If You Can
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Garden State
Gladiator
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Kill Bill, Vol. 1
Moulin Rouge
Requiem for a Dream
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
The Hours
The Village

Very well-deserved for most, with the exception of CTHD, I suppose. Glad to see that ROFD wasn't forgotten!!!

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Best Visual Effects
A.I. Artificial Intelligence
The Day After Tomorrow
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The Matrix Reloaded
Minority Report
Spiderman II
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones
X2: X-Men United

Excellent list and what makes me the happiest is that FOTR is not on the list. A.I. had much better effects in its year anyway. The only sore ommission is Hollow Man which had (IMO) the best visual effects of the entire decade so far probably.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Best Supporting Actress Performance
Cate Blanchett (The Aviator)
Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago)
Holly Hunter (Thirteen)
Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind)
Kate Hudson (Almost Famous)
Marisa Tomei (In the Bedroom)
Meryl Streep (Adaptation)
Natalie Portman (Closer)
Natalie Portman (Garden State)
Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog)
Virgina Madsen (Sideways)
Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon)

Very good picks again, especially glad to see Aghdashloo and Portman here! Madsen and Ziyi are the only undeserving once, I think

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Best Overall Director
Clint Eastwood
Peter Jackson
Quentin Tarantino
Stephen Soderbergh
Steven Spielberg

Not a fan of Soderbergh, but the other four are great picks. Poor Ridley Scott, though.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________-

Best Overall Actor
Johnny Depp
Jude Law
Russel Crowe
Sean Penn
Tom Hanks

Probably the best list thus far. Excellent!

______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Best Overall Actress
Julianne Moore
Kate Winslet
Natalie Portman
Naomi Watts
Nicole Kidman

Not sure about Watts there, but the other four are good picks

Okay, we're onto the biggies now!!! We're going to start with BEST ACTOR, which has 11 nominees. Once again, they will be presented in no particular order.

3, of the 11 nominees, are:

Paul Giamatti (Sideways)

Sean Penn (Mystic River)

Leonardi DiCaprio (The Aviator)

I think I voted Hero as well, right? It is not great, but I needed to fill up my list and I certainly liked it A LOT more than CTHD and House of Flying Daggers.

I voted for Giamatti! Penn barely missed because I voted him for 21 Grams (his better and not overacted performance).

I completely agree. I very much like his 21 Grams performance, while his Mystic River performance was (though not bad) overracted, I thought. Especially the scene where he finds his daughter murdered and the cops are all over him. I thought it was way overdone. Still, he's overall a good actor, can't complain too much.

PEACE, Mike.

I haven't seen LiT, but Carrey and Crowe are very deserving.

Agree, also. Of his 2000-2004 performances that I've seen (I Am Sam, Mystic River, 21 Grams, The Assassination of Richard Nixon), Mystic River was easily his weakest.

I haven't fully checked, but I think all Oscar winners from each year in each respective categories have been nominated, correct?

Up next will the BEST ACTRESS category, which has 11 nominees. They will be presented in no particular order.

3, of the 11 total nominees for Best Leading Actress Performances, are:

Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge)

Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby)

Julie Delpy (Before Sunset)

Interesting that Jamie Foxx got snubbed. Not that I voted for him either (though I preferred him over half the nominees).

Yes, those were them. They split up her votes.

PEACE, Mike.

And I split it even more by nominating her for Dogville. She was absolutely mercilessly good in that one scene!!!

Just barely. A lot of performances, not only Foxx, got cut out by one vote. It was really sucky, because there are some performances that were definately supported generally by voters, but didn't quite make it.

PEACE, Mike.
