It is very difficult to rate animation for various reasons.
a) Animation isn't exactly a genre. It encompasses all sorts of different themes and hence, is part of every classification out there.
b) It is one of the first form of story telling that you experience (at least during my time). Some films may not be considered as good as others but if you grow up with a film, you automatically develop a soft spot for them.
c) There are some great films that come out during your time. you may have seen them but don't remember much of them unless you revisit them. sadly, i haven't.
Hence, the film is composed of films that i absolutely love due to personal experience or a general appreciation for the films. There are a few films that I will be listing down that i know i've seen but don't remember much of. these films haven't been considered at all when compiling this list.
In total, I've only seen 50 feature films that received theatrical release in the United States. While i know of films like Aladdin 2 and Lion King 11/2, i'm not considering those at all.

I'm guessing we'll see Cars and/or Over the Hedge in the top 10, if you're counting computer animated.

Antz
There was a time I preferred Antz to 'A Bug's Life' but over time, my appreciation for Bug's Life increased over Antz. I've always had a fascination for Termites and beating them up. Ants are also amongst my most favored living things. A story about ants can never go wrong in opinion. They're just too cool. Imagine my joy when this film featured an all out fight between Ants and Termites. ORGASMIC!! Clearly, I have issues.
I remember Antz as a light hearted amusing film that felt lively from start to finish. If there was one thing that was wrong with it, it's the fact that the movie just hasn't remained a very memorable one.

Computer animation is counted. The only ones I'm not taking into account are partial animations like space jam, looney toones and roger rabbit. stuff like scanner darkly and waking life is okay though.

South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
It's true. I'm almost ashamed to admit it. It's raunchy and whatever but Matt and Trey always hit a good chord. I am a fan of stupidity and absurdness and this film encompassed it all. Hell, this film would have hit my list just cause of Blame Canada. South Park is one of the funniest films I've ever seen. Too bad Team America isn't an animation though.

Gulliver's Travels
First in the line of nostaligic films. I have fond memories of this film. Back in the day, I watched films for their entertainment value. Back in the day, I equated entertainment with being funny, or involving animals, or being cute. This was one of the few films that was serious and just had some good ol' story telling. Everytime i watched this flick, i used to get nervous when they were setting up the gun to shoot him and when they were pulling on his hair.

Ghost in the Shell
Reminds me of March of the Penguins. It's one of those films that i knew about for a bit and was meaning to watch for reasons i never understood. I just ... wanted to see it. My brother had it lying around so i played it about 7 years ago, got through 10 minutes of the film and shut it off due to bad audio from the tv.
Watched it properly 2 years ago. Excellent stuff. Great story, great animation and amazing attention to detail. Also liked how the characters themselves play out. The concept of the film was intriguing too. I've heard INNOCENCE isn't that good which is a pity because i had my heart set on watching it.

Ice Age
I love Ice Age because i loved the ensemble of characters and I enjoyed the idea of following a completely independant story line of Scrat that once in a while interacted with the main story. I think it was an ingenius way of, in a sense, adding in a mini cartoon into a feature length film. The animation was fun and while the story has been retold a few times before, the film still managed to be funny and fun.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
Many consider this to be the best superhero movie to ever have been made. Bruce Timm is a genius. So are Alan Burnett and Paul Dini.
I always had a small issue with Batman TAS. Something about its style was always unsettling to me. I never thought they completely explored the Bat universe even though they explored the bat himself rather well. I see that in Phantasm as well. ANyhoo, if you ever get the chance, please do watch this overlooked movie.

A Bug's Life
First of the Pixar films but will it be the last? Heh. We all know the answer to this one.
As mentioned before, I wasn't a fan of Bugs. But last year, i sat down with my nephew to watch this one again and i really enjoyed it. it was terribly cute and had much better supporting and downright funny characters as opposed to Antz. And it is also oneof the few movies with a kiddie character that didn't bother me too much. Pixar rocks!

Good picks for far Baba, and the Pinocchio in Outer Space looks very interesting. I might give that a rent sometime if I can find it. It's good to see Batman: Mask of the Phantasm getting the recognition it deserves. I absolutely love that movie, and it's so vastly underrated.

THanks. I wanted to include a lot more of the oldies but i just .. don't remember them so well anymore : (
the thing is that i've seen about 4 to 5 different versions of sleeping beauty, snow white and cinderella and when i was young and now, they're all mixed together in my head. don't remember which one scenes belong to which.

Damn boy! I thought I was an animated junkie. The only classics I know of were the Disney movies.

Shrek 2
Sorry Box
Aaaah Shrek. Thou hast proven me wrong.
Shrek 2 was one of the most unneccessary sequels and had some terrible commercials for it. But I loved it. Shrek seems to be the only dreamworks animation film that has properly utilize the never ending references to pop culture because they've tried not to make it stand out so much .... they've just .. intgrated it well into the film. It also helps that while the Shrek series has some very excellent realistic lessons to teach (instead of fantasy ones), it repeatedly mocks fairy tales and all that is considered to be ... well .... fairy talish : )

Shrek 2 is another worthy addition to your list. I would definitely include this on my list. That movie was just so awesome. I loved everything about it. Unlike a lot of people I actually prefer the sequel to the original.

Monsters, Inc
It's Monsters Inc that made me fall in love with Pixar. Till now, I hadn't seen the Toy Story series and after viewing Monsters, i realized how brilliant Pixar is in their story telling and originality. Never having to resort potty humor or anythiing like that, Monster's Inc features some excellent characters, a level of cuteness that made my mommy cry in joy and a whole lot of fun.

I think Cars will probably rank quite high, as he did say it was the best Pixar film... Maybe top 5.

Have you seen Spirited Away yet, baba? I remember you said you haven't seen any of Miyazaki's work when you saw Howl.
Eh... I didn't like Ghost in the Shell.

Toy Story 2
the reason why i prefer toy story to toy story 2 is because the chick they introduced in the new one pissed me off. introduction of new characters in sequels that try to steal the limelight doesn't always work for me. on the other hand, the originals were back and they were better than ever!
