Better release date then summer. Harry Potter does better in the winter than the summer as we have seen with HP3 and HP4.

The Prestige will be released on 10/20/06 (against The Grudge 2).

It had a release date (Apocalypto) of April 28th so they pushed it back to August 4th.

But WB would sell more DVDs if it was released in June.

Lucky Number Slevin has been pushed back a week to April 7, though I'm surprised it hasn't been pushed back further. I've haven't seen even a single picture from the film, let alone a trailer or clip of some sort.
Clerks II was pushed back a week as well to August 18.

hmm - if this is marketed well (like TPOTC and Narnia) this could be a solid grosser. Even contender for $100m.
Good move by Clerks 2. No need to crowd the first two weeks of Aug when the rest i available.

Wow. Looks like they're really confident since they moved it to the weekend before the 4th of July holiday.
Also, Super Ex-Girlfriend was pushed back a week to July 21.

Michel Gondrey's science of Sleep is being released Aug. 4, the same date a lot of indie flicks open on aiming to be the late-summer indie hit. Last year Broken Flowers, 2046 and Junebug all opened on the same date.

Spider-Man 3, Shrek 3, and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 all in the same month. Plus, a Jim Carrey/Ben Stiller comedy, Used Guys, on Memorial Day weekend as well.
It'll be exciting as hell.

They should move Shrek 3 to Ratatouille's date. It would get killed by the second weekend of Pirates 3.
Used guys will move.
2007 is certain to be the biggest year ever though.

I disagree. Shrek 3 will hold its own, and if the POTC2 gets a mediocre reception, it could be in big trouble. Big films can co-exist. USED GUYS looks like a solid hit on its own, again you only have to look at last May to see how THE LONGEST YARD did.

Great date for Pirates 3. If I had to choose two films to stay in May it would have to be Spider-Man 3 and Pirates 3. Shrek 3 should move to June or July. Used Guys could open May 18. Then another film on the 11th. If Shrek 3 doesn't move it will be killed with Spider-Man 3 going into its third weekend when it opens (which might be north of 40m) and then in its second weekend it will be slaughtered by Pirates 3.

I don't think either Shrek 3 or Pirates 3 will move. It'll be the busiest weekend ever.
I don't think Used Guys will move either. The Longest Yard could withstand direct competition from Sith and Bruce Almighty had competition from The Matrix Reloaded, but both did well.

They can, but competition for families always has much more of an effect then for other audiences. It can cost Shrek 3 quite a bit. As for reaction to POTC 2, everything, especially the talent involved, indicates to me that it will be better then mediocre. No major film ever opens against a blockbuster of POTC's size. TLY opened against Madagascar and after the fanboys had already seen ROTS.

It's impossible for Used Guys not to move. Reloaded had less then 40m over that 3 day weekend. POTC 3 will have at least 130m, or at least that will become clear after POTC 2 opens.
