Off-topic: Have any of you seen "Max"?

Also, was anyone else kind of surprised by the lack of screentime Hitler had in the film? I was expecting him to be in nearly every frame, and there are five or ten minute long periods where we dont see or here from him. And he kills himself with around fourty minutes left in the film. Very strange, considering Ganz's performance is the backbone.

The film is about two and a half hours long, so he's in more than half.

He's more of a supporting character than you might initially think. I'd still call Ganz the lead because the film revolves around him and he leaves by far the biggest impression, but an argument could be made that the real lead is Alexandra Maria Lara, who plays his secretary.

They are both leads. He is at least more of a lead than Hopkins was in Silence of the Lambs.

to me that isn't saying alot > what was Hopkins in that movie for 15 minutes > that seems more a statement for Oscar consideration that talking about the movie and the character's involvement.

Makeshift said it best - tedious and claustrophobic. I found it to be very repetitive at times and about forty minutes too long. The secretary's character was hardly as developed as it should have been. I found it hard relating her character to the actual woman interviewed. The technicals are all pretty strong - they managed to recreate the feel of the period, the action, etc perfectly. That claustrophobia was, at times a highlight of the movie, elevating the tension and whatnot, and at other times a disservice. The movie definitely wanders too much, and seeing the same rooms in the same tight bunker over and over really got tiring. The movie just didn't have much of an impact on me, not as much as I hoped when I bought it. But Ganz. Ganz was great - he really brought Hitler to life. Along with Eva Braun's character, they really elevated this piece beyond a middling grade. Every moment he was on screen I was pretty much captivated. It's the wandering periods in between that don't further the story nearly as much that drop the grade down. However, it was very interesting as a history listen to see the final moments of the war play out - especially from Hitler's perspective. If it had more of an emotional impact, this could have been one of the best, if not the best movies of the year in my opinion.

Sorry if that was a recap of what anyone said. The only review I read after seeing it just now was makeshifts, since we pretty much watched it at the same time. Thanks to lecter, dolce, and even andaroo for the recommendation - it's still a pretty fine movie.
