I'm a little split on this one. For it's horror/thriller self, it had some of the most tense and gripping moments I've ever seen. But there was flaws in almost everything else. Bad acting, bad/no development on the characters, plot holes, and they ended the film short on a cliffhanger without any resolution at all. They didn't catch the killer, Walker didn't even get to kiss the girl, Zahn's situation wasn't fixed up at all, etc.

Joy Ride is an unfairly underrated and mostly forgotten well-made thriller. It pretty much mimics Steven Spielberg's duel, but it does it very well. Some of the acting is off (Paul Walker), but Steve Zahn saves it all. There is a whole lot of suspense, but also some humorous moments and nice action. The solution is a bit disappointing and predictable.

Saw this one twice theatrically. Excellent thriller. Very intense and well-done.

9/10 (A-)

Very underrated. Who knew Steve Zahn with this and Perfect Getaway would be good in these kinds of films.

Ted Levine's also kills it, and the it's very effective most of the way. B+

Easily the second best Paul Walker movie next to Running Scared. Ted Levine is tha MAN and the tension/suspense scenes are really well done.

I will take this any day over The Fast and The Furious.

Very good movie. A direct, suspenseful, and well-crafted variation on Duel. The first half is particularly on point; it deflates a bit once Leelee Sobieski becomes involved in the action, but not too much.

He will never be a huge name, but John Dahl is a talented director with a particularly sharp eye and ear for this type of down-and-dirty, macho entertainment. Other examples include Red Rock West (with Nicolas Cage) and, of course, quasi-modern classic Rounders.
