The other shows might shift to other CBS and WB cable networks.

This unholy alliance would mean that NBC will be 5th place among the networks

That 23% in the poll represents the pre-pubescent girls of the world that shouldn't be allowed to use the internet.

There's been confirmation that Mark Schwann as well as CW executives have an eye on what this poll is up to, Mark has been cheering on his Tree Hill in statements and forums all day.
I think this is what you call "Ballot Stuffing." HP fans did the same thing to the IMDb awards to the point that Goblet of Fire was #3 in the Documentary catagory.
This is hardly reliable.

Oh, and the fact that the article says Charmed has a better chance of returning says a lot.

Heeee. The CW. Reminds me of Arrested Development's "...don't call it that" thingy.

But HP has one of the most devoted and cult fanbases on the planet. Goblet of Fire made 100+ million on opening weekend.
Yes, it may be a slight case of ballot-stuffing, but it shows the fanbase support is there, don't it?

Slight case? If the poll was limited to people with an IQ of over 100, the show would be struggling to get to 5%. The only reason its winning is because the One Tree Hill fans got there first. And I really doubt 90% of the OTH voters have even visited MSNBC.com before.
As for fanbase support, yes, it does have that, but every show does, and this hardly has the ratings of Gilmore Girls or Critical acclaim of Veronica Mars to fall back on.
Of course, you once thought OTH had a chance of topping The O.C., so...

Hey, next season it will! (if it survives)
It's series high (which it achieved with the GG lead-in) is above The OC's series increasily dipping series-low. Even this season it got 3.0/5 once, while OC got 3.4/5 just last episode. So yes, I believe that if it survives and returns to power with a GG lead-in, it will beat the OC at least once next year.

The O.C. is up against CSI, Dancing With the Stars and MNIE/Office.
Pre-AI, OTH was up against E-Ring.
Nuff said.

Big news I guess but both networks show mostly crap so it's really not "that" big. VM will likely survive, OTH seems like more of a candidate of cancellation but it too could easily survive. Who knows, maybe the new network will cancel all but the highest rated shows on the respective networks and have mostly a new lineup so as to promote more as "new" than a combination of two networks most could care less about.

One more update before bed: OTH is now at 37% leading the poll. Say what you like, but that's still damn impressive. 14000 votes * .37, = 5100+ One Tree Hill fans came out to support it today. It has over triple the next one the poll(VM, 12%). Yes, it may be ballot-stuffing, but still. The fact they have THAT much passion to support it like this, on a high profile site like MSNBC... I mean, if every other show has fans, why did this one dominate so much? It shows that the internet-wise fanbase for this thing, is almost bordering on cult. On the WB.com, they have over twice as much posts on their message board as any other show despite half the ratings. There's zillions of fansites absolutely everywhere. The DVD sales are off the charts. Peyton's Podcasts are fantasticly succesful. ETC. Anyways, if OTH does go down in flames, which I admit it very well might...There will be an uproar. I can only imagine the petitioning and protesting/pissed off letters that will flow in. For that reason, I believe the show if cancelled will still find some it's way on a lower WB cable station or whatever, like Game_1 said.

Is that confirmed, or just his wishful thinking? I think everyone at this point would love to see GG and VM paired up.

Les Moonves was talking about it VERY seriously: Quote: He also had this to say about one potential pairing: "The idea of putting 'Gilmore Girls' with 'Veronica Mars,' for [UPN President Dawn Ostroff, who will run the new network], is a dream come true. She finally has a potential lead-in that could help that show."

Don't know if this has been said yet, but one more piece of news:
-The CW will be broadcasting 7 nights a week. That means there will be(although they're weak) 3 Saturday slots open, which is very much good news for all shows trying to survive.

Um...no. It's broadcasting 6 nights a week, and even if it was broadcasting on Saturday, that would be two slots open, not three.

I heard it's 7. My newspaper says that anyways.
And yeah, the 2 and 3 thing was a mix-up.
Any confirmation for 6?

Gilmore Girls & Veronica Mars is pretty much the perfect pairing up.
Any word on what's happening with Smallville yet?

VERONICA MARS is in for sure. The ratings are up this season and they will only increase next season as well. It's a great, high-quality show that is adored by many and more and more are sure to discover it. OTH blows this season and a lot of people that liked it before think so too. It got stupid just like THE O.C. did. Like GILMORE GIRLS, VERONICA MARS just needs a chance to find its audiences, which can take a few seasons. And even this year against a monster ratings hit like LOST it has increased quite a bit from last season. No way in hell will this great show be going anywhere. They will stick with it for sure. TV just doesn't get much better than VERONICA MARS.
