Due to this merger expect a higher number of cancelled shows at this season. Sadly, though I enjoy One Tree Hill it might end up getting canned in this deal.

Not one, I don't believe. It came as a huge shock to me, too. I went to TheFutonCritic, and saw a pic of Veronica Mars and figured it was either UPN renewing it or a description of tomorrow night's show. Did not expect it to be HUGE news.

This is big, big news.

I mean, not like an ABC/NBC merger or something like that.

But I mean, UPN and WB are still pretty dang big.

Haven't they always been one network? I mean, seriously...

In all seriousness, I hope Supernatural doesn't get canned because of this. It's actually a pretty decent show.

As long as Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars and Everybody Hates Chris survive this transition, this news is okay with me.

Just to echo everybody else - whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??????

I don't watch anything on either channel aside from Top Model & Beauty and the Geek so as long as they survive it doesn't matter to me.

Is this also going to have a significant impact on syndicated shows? I don't know about anybody else but a lot of daytime shows in my area air on either UPN or the WB, I'm guessing a bunch of old has-been shows will get canned.

I guess this is good news for me, because I'm always confusing the two for some reason when it comes to their lower tier shows.

A pretty reliable source on another message board said that GG has been granted a full season 7.
And I think Les hinted at a GG/VM night in a press conference today.

That would be awesome.

Hey now. "Lower tier" doesn't go together at all with "Veronica Mars". But... I'll gladly apply it to a few other shows on both networks.

I think this is a really good idea. It will be very interesting to see how this effects the shows. Viewership should be increasing for sure. This is quite excting! They should put VERONICA MARS after GILMORE GIRLS. Now that would be one great night of TV .

I wouldn't care if ONE TREE HILL goes ;).

Fuck Veronica Mars. :guns:

The OTH vs VM bitchfight just got a whole lot more important. It looks like it might be 1v1 for survival for the rest of the season. You know, I have a feeling that VM could end up losing this. Just a gut inclination...

and how is that? VM has far more potential then OTH. VM should never have been on UPN in the first place. Put it on ABC or CBS and it'd be huge.

that's only your inclination because you like oth.
veronica mars has way better critical reception
and even if oth beats it in viewership, it isnt significant enough to warrant it as the prevailer.

what would they do about syndication shows?

But that's just it. Viewership is easily the most important factor when making decisions like this. OTH has also proved before that it can rock the bomb-shit after Gilmore Girls, it has more of a built-in "fanbase", it plays big-time internationally, and it does bofo numbers in DVD sales(The WB's #2 seller in that department, #1 seller if you discount the dead Charmed).

Yes, it'll be damn close. But I wouldn't be so sure of Veronica Mars yet at all. OTH has a lot of things going for it too.

Oh, Shack.

Your gut has never served you well in the past. OTH is now doomed to fail.

How is that? It had worse retention than Supernatural does for most of its run.

Also, why is Veronica Mars specifically mentioned by Les Moonves at the publicity tour when there is absolutely no mention anywhere of One Tree Hill?

I wouldn't be surprised if both One Tree Hill and Veronica Mars don't make it on the schedule next year.

What is everyone's take on Everwood & Supernatural? I think Veronica Mars' survival depends on what they do with those shows. And you have to consider that out of 13 hours of primetime they're gonna schedule around 3-4 hours of new programming, maybe more since it's a "new" network.

I would say these shows are definitely in so far -

America's Next Top Model
Everybody Hates Chris
Gilmore Girls
Beauty & the Geek
Smallville
Smackdown!

and these shows are dead -

Charmed
Related
Most of the crappy sitcoms

With One Tree Hill, Veronica Mars, Everwood, Supernatural, and some random sitcoms (Reba, Eve, Girlfriends maybe?) fighting for the last couple hours. It's also unclear what they will do with Top Model & Beauty and the Geek...will they both be airing at the same time, or will B&tG air in Top Model's slot during midseason and perhaps the summer? The latter situation would free up another hour for the fall's schedule.

this is actually pretty smart, they were taking viewers away from each other.

This is what I mean when I say built-in fanbase scenario...

Ha! :hahaha:

And this isn't just some small poll either. There's been confirmation that Mark Schwann as well as CW executives have an eye on what this poll is up to, Mark has been cheering on his Tree Hill in statements and forums all day.

I haven't really watched either network since Angel left WB and Buffy left UPN. Once the tv films start, I'll tune into WBUPN or whatever it wants to be called.
