Post 'Friends' to return to TV?
Donno if this has been posted...

HOLLYWOOD - Seminal sitcom Friends is returning to television after each of its six stars agreed multi-million dollar deals to star in four one-hour specials.
In a secret meeting before Christmas, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry reportedly agreed a $5 million apiece deal with NBC bosses in Los Angeles.

Scriptwriters have already started penning lines for the four double episodes, which are due to air next year.

Aniston, who has filmed a string of movies since the final Friends episode, was the last to agree to the new deal.

An NBC insider says, "She's the one who had been holding out. But she's now agreed to reprise Rachel (Green).

"Bringing them back is a dream come true. Ratings will go through the roof."

Network bosses have also hinted at a second spin-off of the hit comedy, following the disappointing performance of Matt LeBlanc's show Joey. The new program will see the three male stars--Perry, Schwimmer and LeBlanc--pilot a series called It's A Guy Thing.

An NBC spokesperson confirms, "Negotiations on future projects are going on all the time."

Despite the fact that I'm craving a new Friends episode, I don't think this is a good idea. Too soon, too desperate, and the new spin-off ideas are just too sad.

Not sure about this..

I like Korrgan's idea of a spin-off of Monica and Chandler

I agree with the Monica and Chandler spin-off as the one they should have done. The Joey spin-off is bad. If these episodes are made they would probably score big for NBC, at least over 20 million viewers.

A spin-off with all 3 guys, like the article said might happen, could work well. The thing is, Joey can't headline a show himself. But if the three continue with the chemistry created on Friends, and have some good writing, it could be a successful new comedy.

@Raffiki: You think it's too soon? When should they wait exactly, when they get old? It would just seem lame/forced then. If they want to do this, they should do it now and get it done. I personally wouldn't even do it, but since they want to, now is a better time than later, in my opinion.

Maybe I am biased because I like Friends, and 4 special hour shows would be sweet. Would also create some kick-ass ratings moments.

PEACE, Mike.

and why wouldn't they? Mostly every show gets one, well the big ones anyways.

hehe. Trust me, I like Friends more than you. I am a Friends addict, lol... to the extreme! I just don't like to reveal it

But, I probably feel the most like you. I realized when I said it's too soon, I probably would have liked it never to happen. The reason why I'm concerned is that it may never end and they might kill something that ended at least on somewhat of a high note. but, you are right, actually, that if they are ever going to do it, better do it now.

I just don't see how the 3 guys spin-off would work without Rachel and Monica. Are they all bachelors?
The more I think of it, it just doesn't make sense. Joey and Ross can't survive as successful and comedic characters without the female friends. The only one that could have a chance is Chandler and he's married!!! I dunno.... I'd do anything ot have had Friends keep going forever, but now that it's over, it's over.

What's worse is that this isn't a result of some mutual and voluntary willingness nor did it come from some spark in the writers to create some great hours of television. It's mostly because of ratings, hype, and the money. the episode are being written for the event. It's worse when an event dictates the plan, though rarely has the opposite ever occurred.

Aw, what the hell. I hope I bite my words and it turns into something great. I want my friends back!! ;)

I seriously hope to God not.. This show was literally beaten to death and shoved down our throats 7 days a week, sometimes shown 4 times a day and I just think this reeks od desperation on the part of NBC for not being able to secure or create a sitcom to rival it.. "Joey" was an embarrassment and has had the plug pulled, what?? Twice?? They've retooled it, brought in a new chick and the show still blows..

WHAT?!?!!? THE FUCK?!?!?! Umm... what?!?!

*is sorta giddy at the idea, but sorta wtf at the idea too*

The chemistry between the guys is something that's really enjoyable on "Friends", but how could that possibly work? Joey is in LA, Ross is with Rachel, and Chandler's married to Monica. It really doesn't make sense, and I don't understand in the least how Schwimmer or Perry would agree to this. I think this is all bullshit. No way any of them are this desperate.

Personally, I could care less, but the ratings will be through the roof.

Not real.

But the idea of another spinoff is funny. It would be like After After MASH.

I would be super happy if it was true, since Friends is my favorite show.

But, alas, I'm not sure.

I seriously can't imagine what these freaks (yes, all six characters are seriously mentally disturbed if you think about it) would be like 15-20 years down the road. I'm not sure if I want to

I love Friends to the point that I don't even think that it ever even jumped the shark, so yes, I'm looking forward to this.

Not sure if I still 100% believe it's happening, though.

It ain't on any other site that I've visited yet. And, considering "Friends" was one of the biggest sitcoms of the 1990s, I'm sure it would be starting to make the news by now. The spin-off thing is really what gets me thinking that it's false. It's not hard to believe that they'd agree to do some specials for the money.

I can't see any spin off ever really working. Each individual Friend had their strong and weak points, it was the group dynamic that made the show great. Individually, none of them are good enough to carry an entire show.

NBC should've turned "Friends" into a franchise a la CSI a few years ago. They could've had original Friends on Thursday night, and Friends: LA on a Tuesday. 6 entirely different characters, all friends, all unique and funny, all living and loving it up on the West coast.

I just can't see Aniston, who has a thriving film career now, putting it on the back burner to return for 4 Friends made for TV one hour specials.

I definitely don't take this seriously.
