Pretty awesome episode.

I didn't catch all the images in the monster, I just saw a bunch of black smoke.

Eko rules pretty badly. The throat-cutting thing was hardcore.

Charlie is a smuck. But every story needs a villian. At least it looks like he's not "the good guy" anymore.

While this one was fantastic, I have to say next weeks looks like total shit. Another Jack flashback + chasing after Michael with guns = Blah.

Apparently the images in the monster were Eko's flashbacks.

I had a theory awhile back that the people just were not having flashbacks, that flashbacks had been triggered in all of them.

I think I may be right!

Locke says that he stared into the heart of the island, and what he saw was beautiful.

Heh I thought it was lightning/some sort of electronics at first. Damn that monster reminds me of Prey.

Anyways, very good episode, and I agree that Eko's flashback puts Kate to shame. And Charlie... it's frustrating. I like some things about his character but god if the writers don't seem to be trying to make him constantly whine and bitch. It's like they have a thing against him or something, I dunno.

It would explain Locke's legs, among other things.

If it wasn't for the Pilot episode, I would think the monster wasn't capable of uprooting trees.

Question: Did the monsters write the monster sloppily? Or are there... TWO monsters?

What?? lol

You mean the writers?

Everyone is thinking way too much. Just let it be. Everything will come together in the end and it's way too early to make any kind of connections or realizations about the mythology or the island aside from educated guesses or reasoned out theories.

I thought the episode was okay. Even though it was Eko-centric, it was REALLY Eko-centric. Like, it was him almost throughout the entire episode. I don't know why people aren't complaining about how they knew from the very beginning his brother was gonna be the one in the plane yet they have a hissy fit because they knew seconds before that the house in the Kate episode was gonna blow or other things lik Desmond being the one in the hatch when the revelation was only like 2-3 scenes away.

Anyway... liked the monster stuff.... we're starting to get into the thick of it. So now, Charlie, Eko, and Locke have seen the thing like up close while Jack and Kate have seen it whiff by.
Sayid and Sawyer and I think Ana-Lucia (??) have heard the whsipers in the jungle.

And soon enough we might get to see The Others.
Next week's preview didn't look too good but hopefully the actual episode will be pretty great. But it's Jack again
Good thing is... when we have a Jack episode, the flashback becomes almost irrelevant but big revelations or events happen (Boone dies, they open hatch, they find the water (I think??))

So... we'll wait and see.

So what's the connection with Claire's psychic and Eko's brother?
They both knew the plane was going down!

Another episode in which I could feel my insterest in the series ebb. We got another mostly-flashbacks episode in which we learn that Mr Eko is yet another violent criminal, as if the island doesn't have enough of them already.

I didn't mind Charlie, in a way I found him more likeable this episode than his usual icky-sweet act, he was flawed but real, and at least not another killer. It kind of amuses me that people don't like Charlie who is flawed yes but compared to many of the others he is a saint. The monster is lame compared to what they implied the first season. And I really didn't like the whole Sawyer-Kate thing, they are totally wrong for each other, it's just not realistic. Their bits together looked forced and not naturally flowing.

On the positive side, hmm, I guess the Walt/Michael thing was sort of interesting. And Sun got 10 seconds of screen time, always nice to see her.

This show has become so overtly and so thoroughly about redemption they might as well rename it My Name is Lost.

I actually agree with alot of your comments.

About Kate and Sawyer... I'm pro Kate-Sawyer but I don't think an actual relationship is realistic either. I don't think they're wrong for each other. Actually I think they're so wrong for each other that that's why they're right for each other. In all honesty, Kate-Jack is even less realistic. I think Kate and Sawyer live off their love-hate relationsip and season 1, till the last episode, really showed that with great finesse.

My hopes, as I've stated before, is for them to not really get into a relationship but I wouldn't mind them hooking up once or twice. But the still need to re-instill that tension between them. They're both in the same boat and the boat is not big enough for two people. And a MUST for their relationship has to be one of them dying by the end of the show.

Lets add to the list because, we must.

The plane was carrying:

A man who was cursed
A guy who shot an innocent man in Australia
member of the iraqi republican guard who tortured people
a woman who blew up a guy in a house and then shot 3 more people and killed a friend in a car wreck
a police officer who shot a man out of spite
a man, who as a little kid, killed a dude and then slits the throat of 2 more people

I would really not want to piss someone off on this flight.

Just wait till we find out who Rose killed. Hell, maybe Claire had twins inside her and Aaron killed the other one.

By the way, I didn't bring this up before but I'll guess I do it now...

Defending Kate's crime being a slight letdown, remember that wasn't the only thing she's done. Shes also in her words "killed the man she loved", meaning another straight-up murder. She as well had her whole bank scamming scenario, and they've still got room to expand her spree even more in future episodes. Also, running away and tricking off from the cops doesn't exactly help your case.

God, people are so hard to please with this show.

I still think it's as great as ever. Even though I want to reach through my TV and strangle Charlie.

Maybe the island is some sort of futuristic prison, would be one of the few ways to make sense of the backstories.

But whatever is going on, I think the show is losing many of the new fans who had got into the show from the DVD. Unfortunately just about everyone in rl here who I turned on to the series is now off of it. The reasons differ slightly but mostly it revolves around not liking "them starting it over with new people" as one of them put it.

The ratings are higher than ever.

And here is honestly the only place I've seen any kind of backlash, everyone else I know still loves it.

I actually like the show more the 2nd season than the first season. The first season felt like it was just spinning its wheels when it hit the halfway point and I got sick of the same people getting backstories and it seemed to take forever to get that raft anywhere. It was still one of the best shows on tv but it was frustrating me to no end. At least now we have the hatch, Desmond, the tailies, and the others, instead of just the beach, the cave, a monster and some crazy French lady.

My main qualm this season has been the death of Shannon - I wasn't crazy about her but from a plot standpoint it just seemed like such a copout, as in a "ahh we don't know what to do with her anymore now that her incest plotline has been extinguished!" sort of way. Plus her death had ramifications for what one episode? Sure Sayid is still pissed, but already people are giving Ana Lucia housewarming gifts.

There's some frustration with the show here as well:

I thought it was a bad episode because I wasn't interested. Ohhh Kate gives Sawyer a haircut, well I'm glued to my seat.

Totally agree.

But Charlie was a lot better in this episode. "Beat me with your jesus stick" is one of the funniest lines Lost has come up with.

Libs, I know it's one of the those "well you have to listen to me because all of my friends hate it and it's my word against yours" sort of things. But literally everyone who was part of my Lost group back before the show even aired, are now lost on Lost.

Believe it or not.
