exactly, people didnt hate Sawyer with a passion. I liked him always, but the a good deal of people were annoyed with his antics. ana, however, most people HATE, they arent just annoyed with her or something like that. ana is ridiculously bossy and controlling and thinks shes the expert at everything, which i find highly amusing cause in "real life" she was like a fucking beat cop. ana wasnt even like a Sgt or a detective or something, she was just some cop, thats all. She has some god-complex for someone who was never the boss really.

Saywer was a character that audiences loved to hate. Unlike Ana-Lucia...

Ana-Lucia is not a character that viewers are supposed to fall in love with.
She is among the most flawed characters.
What I don't like is how viewers just started hating her from the beginning and never even gave her a chance. Her character is supposed to be bossy and have a god-complex. She had lost grounding over her own life back home and now when everyone seemed to be in turmoil she thought it was her chance to shine. Unfortunately, circumstances turned against her again and left her cold and alone.
There is always someone like Ana in real life; you know you've at least come across someone like her, doesn't have to be someone in your inner circle of family and friends, but she is not an unasked for character. You think it's reasonable to have all these people on an island living, for the most part, peacefully? The tensions that were present in the first season's half were great but now they are all fleshed out and they're one big happy family. Sure, there is a divide forming based on faith, but that's still in early stages of development (And will probably play the biggest role/theme throughout the series).
So, it's reasonable and I would say, necessary to bring in a character like her.
Her development is the among the top most I am interested in and her backtory was probably the best this season along with Locke's.

Yep, I agree with my sexy bABA. My dislike for Michelle really makes it really, really easy to hate Ana. Of course, she still killed Shannon. That bitch.

That's what they are hoping but the difference is Sawyer was simply annoying and hogged some supplies, he never killed or caused to be killed any of the other survivors and didn't try to be in charge. Sawyer also has more than 2 facial expressions.
I've always had a morbid fascination with M Rod's "glare + disgust + eyeroll" face. The "boredom + constipation" smirk on the other hand... not so much.

As long as it doesn't detract from the character's point, then it's fine and there is no reason yet to believe it does.
So, ya I'm fine with it too.
Her "usual" demeaner is just what the character asks for... maybe that's why they picked her

To me it's the character that doesn't work well dramatically speaking, and the choice of an obnoxious and untalented actress merely made the situation worse. If they wanted to add conflict there are plenty of ways. They could have had some survivors want to make contact with or act diplomatically to the Others, or have some set off to explore/map the island against the objections of most. There are a variety of ways they could have added conflict. Heck it appears that the leaders of the survivors are living in this nice bunker while most else are living in the forest, if that's not a good source for conflict what is.

12/11 - Well, guess which big Lost mystery is finally going to be revealed in episode 13? Yep, HOW Locke became paralyzed. Helen (Katey Sagal) is coming back for the occasion. There's also some news about some kind of underwater somethin' somethin' that may or may not sound like a certain Survivor. I hear the producers have written a new female character who’s describedas an “excitement junkie.†I’m picturing her as a certain TV diva who uses words like “piddlably,†but no word yet on her casting. She will appear in the 13th episode and may be back later on as a recurring character. Someone we thought was dead will be back. She (did I say ‘she’?) will be found in the most delicious of all ways -- by Eko and Sawyer in the middle of the jungle. And this is someone we do not know well at all. Source: Kristin on E!Online

Someone we think is dead? And it's a girl? BE SHANNON!!! Please be Shannon!
But it'll probably be that dumb bitch that disappeared in the woods.

I bet it's Cindy The Randomly Disappearing Chick.
Shannon is dead, dead, dead. Not to mention the article said it would be someone we didn't know well.
Speaking of Katey Sagal, did you guys all hear that she was offered a full-time role on the show (presumably as one of the newcomers, or maybe even one of the others) but turned it down to play Helen because she didn't want to move to Hawaii? She would've been a good addition to the show, I think, she's great.

Katey Sagal was so good as Helen.
Although I would have really, really liked her to be a regular on the show, I don't blame her decision and actually can't imagine anyone else better as Helen. Bet she would have been Libby or maybe Cindy!

To me the mystery is not how Locke lost the use of his legs, it's how he got the use back.

This has been brought up before. Locke has a suitcase containing hundreds of knives. Although they don't allow as close a shave as the razors at your local Wal-Mart, shaving with a knife at least prevents the guys from having foot-long beards and such. This isn't just speculation: there was an episode in season 1 where we actually saw Locke shaving with his knife. It's been said before, but I don't get why people nitpick about this stuff when they accept the fact that there are polar bears and horsies on the island.

On one of Jack's flashback episodes (I believe it was his flashback), the episode opened showing him looking in a mirror shaving his beard with a razor. So they definately have razors as well.
