Finally saw the first episode, which is my favorite of the four. Here's how I'd grade the four:
1. Incident On and Off a Mountain Road - B+
2. Dreams in the Witch House - C+
3. Dance of the Dead - D
4. Jenifer - B-

Well Lect, it took me 5 weeks to finally see an episode that I loved. Chocolate was extremely odd and violent, not to mention well made.
Maybe the show has reached a creative turning point.

Who directed Chocolate? Takashi Miike by any chance?
EDIT: I checked up on IMDB and it was Mick Garris. I am a big Stephen King fan and thus a fan of Garris as he has made some decent adaptations of King-novels, especially the great The Stand. He was also the one whose idea Masters of Horror was anyway.
Miike, however, directed Imprint and I wonder how that will be. If it is ANYTHING like Miike's usual stuff, Loyal, you'll either love it or hate it, but since you like bizarre stuff, you'll rather love it.
Dance of the Dead apparently just once again showcases the pitiful decline of Tobe Hooper after TCM and Poltergeist (which was Spielberg's project anyway).

Watching The Stand is a yearly ritual for me, I love the book and the miniseries.
My interest has now peaked for Imprint. The more bizarre, the better.
Dance of the Dead literally was unwatchable. Beyond boring.
Next week's Homecoming sounds interesting, Joe Dante + zombies + politics. John Landis' Deer Woman the following week could go either way.
Personally, I would like the show to feature more "monsters".

Loyal, have you seen some Miike films? If not, I really recommend you Audition. You'll dig it.ö

i have to say that Jenifer was the worst one, by far. The people were so amazingly stupid and it was annoying the hell out of me, plus i knew how it was going to end as soon as he shot that guy in the beginning, and i dont understand why he didnt just kill her in the cabin at the end there, why the hell did he feel the need to drag her into the woods? It made no sense, and he was a cop and was driving his own car this whole time, and none of his cop friends/coworkers even tried to look for him. I absolutely could not stand Jenifer, that was an F if there ever was one.

I thought it was creepy enough, and bloody enough, but it was incredibly predictable. For some reason, I'm seeing a lot of Steven Weber lately, too.

Ichi the Killer took me a while for me to finally like. At first viewing, I thought it was way too bloody and graphic for my taste but the more times I see it on tv, the more I seem to love it. I havent really seen the other films by Miike but Ive seen trailers for his movies where its as graphic as Ichi

1. Incident On and Off a Mountain Road - B
2. Dreams in the Witch House - C
3. Dance of the Dead - D
4. Jenifer - B-
5. Chocolate - B
Downgraded Dreams in the Witch House and Incident. Just a bit. Chocolate wasn't as good as I had hoped (seeing as how Loyal gave it an A). But, I did enjoy it a lot. I thought it was a nice, slow, building story.
Still... nothing stands out yet to me. Chocolate did a nice job in storytelling, while Incident was just a fun ride with a cool villain. Everything else has been... meh. I kind of expect the show to flip the switch every week, and kick it up a few notches, but it has yet to do it. Here's hoping for Episode 6 on Friday!

Most of your grades are just one below my original grades (as seen in bold). I just wish I enjoyed Chocolate as much as you did. Did El_masked comment on it yet?

Fine fine heres my grade for the shows
1. Incident On and Off a Mountain Road - C+/B- kind of predictable the last 15 minutes of the show. I could smell the part where she has her husband's body in the trunk
2. Dreams in the Witch House - B+ I dont understand the hate for the this episode. Its clearly one of the more entertaining episode since it combines humor in with some blood splat. I guess you have to really understand HP Lovecraft to really appreciate this episode
3. Dance of the Dead - D Boooorrrrrrrrriiiing The guy who looks like Jack Black and acted like Jack Black made me want to flip the channel
4. Jenifer - B+/A- Its a very disturbing episode, I got grossed out by Jenifer eating the poor little girl's body and the boy's penis. Gives a new meaning to put a bag on her face. Steven Weber seems to always appear on most horror tv shows like Stephen King movies and episodes of Tales from the Crypt
5. Chocalate - C+/B- I didnt like this episode as much as you guys, the problem stems from it not really being a horror story at all although there are some funny moments like him transcending to the woman's body while being boned by an asian male

I would have to agree on the episode chocalate. It seem like a 90's outer limits episode to me. and i love the 90's outer limits
but it didnt feel like horror to me.
The jennifer episode was bad as well better than dance of the dead which was really bad episode but still very predictable even the gory stuff on second viewing seem tame.
Dance of the dead D-
jennifer C
Chocolate C+

I didn't give Chocolate an A. I forgot to add my grade. I gave it a B. I didn't like it was much as Loyal, but I thought it was a nice, building story. Nothing scary about it, but I didn't mind it.
What's on the plate for this week? Anything exciting in Episode 6?

Joe Dante's Homecoming is next, Mr X. I think the premise is about a president rigging elections by taking in votes by dead zombies.
In other news, Dr Lector will like is that Fangoria magazine is reporting that Masters of Horror will have unedited footage on DVD. Stuff from the episode Jenifer was cut out of tv because it was too gruesome for cable tv will be shown on dvd. Also Rob Zombie is rumored to directt one of the episodes for season 2.

I should explain my A. In the context of the show, yeah, it wasnt very horrific. But it was damn trippy.

Kinda sounds like what happened in the Chris Farley movie, "Black Sheep". Except... replace zombies with people. There was no walking dead in a Farley movie.

The question is....when will these DVD's come out here, if ever? I am not so knowledgable on ordering DVD's from overseas...
This series is probably more anticipated by me than any movie out there at the moment.
I read that Carpenter's episode, Cigarette Burns is supposed to be one of the highlights of the series.
Also, too bad Romero and Corman (now it would have been fun to see his, no?!), has to jump off and be replaced.
Also, how come Craven is not directing one? SHAME ON HIM!

New Stephen King Horror Anthology Comes To Cable
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/051202a.php
Tom Berenger, Kim Delaney, William Hurt, Ron Livingston, William H. Macy, Marsha Mason, Samantha Mathis, Jacqueline McKenzie, Jeremy Sisto, Henry Thomas and Steven Weber are all set to star in TNT's "Nightmares and Dreamscapes" - an anthology series of eight one-hour episodes adapted from King's short stories and premiering Summer 2006.
The following are the stories that have been cast for production:
Umney's Last Case William H. Macy and Jacqueline McKenzie star in this story about a fictional private eye whose author decides he wants to take the place of his detective creation to escape from the tragedy of his own life.
You Know They Got a Hell of a Band Kim Delaney and Steven Weber star in this story of a young couple who happen upon a town in which all of the residents share a deadly secret while gearing up for the concert of a lifetime.
The End of the Whole Mess An award-winning filmmaker, played by Ron Livingston, documents his final hour of life and tells the story of his brother's discovery of a chemical that ends all violence. When the brother, played by Henry Thomas, attempts to use the chemical on the world, however, the results are catastrophic.
The Fifth Quarter Jeremy Sisto plays a recently released criminal who learns from his dying friend of a map torn into four parts. If put back together, the map will lead to the location of $1 million taken during a robbery. But finding it might not be as easy as it seems. Samantha Mathis co-stars.
The Road Virus Heads North Tom Berenger plays a prize-winning author on a road trip heading north. After stopping at a yard sale to buy a painting, he later realizes the painting, which shows a car traveling along a road, is slowly changing and may be controlling his fate. Marsha Mason co-stars as Aunt Trudy.
Battleground After murdering the owner of a toy company, a killer for hire played by William Hurt receives a package of toy soldiers in the mail, but these soldiers aren't just toying around.
I actually spent time in school trying to adapt some of these short stories.
Of my favs, The End of the Whole Mess is only one being produced. No sign of Suffer the Little Children, The Night Flier (remake I guess), Popsy, The Moving Finger, The Ten O'Clock People, Rainy Season, and Home Delivery.
