Post West Wing
Anyone here watch West Wing? I have unfortunately missed the last two episodes. I suppose there is a web fan site somewhere that will give me synopsis, but if anyone here can let me know I would appreciate it.

Here's a site that has detailed, lengthy, hilarious recaps of the shows that have aired to date. With the exception of tonight's episode. A recap should be up by tomorrow, and a full recap on Friday or Saturday. I know they are funny, but I'm not sure how good a replacement they are for actually watching the episode. The one time I did that for an episode of 24 it seemed to do the trip so here's hoping it could help you with TWW.

Yeah, it's a liberal fantasy -- (sigh) Imagine! An intelligent President, surrounded by a staff that is competent and really cares about serving the public.... if only!

I think "Lost" is more believable.

Hell I think "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is more believable :D

I'm not a big fan - but of the episodes ive watched I've always found myself relatively entertained and engaged. Which is pretty neat considering I'm about 20 years younger than the target age bracket :)

I've honestly never seen a full episode of The West Wing (it was kind of before my time in the realm of TV buffery), but I'm totally interested in this live debate on Sunday between Jimmy Smitts and Alan Alda.

I'll be watching.

Does Puerto Rico have this effect on everyone?

If so it must have a pahretty high suicide rate.

I was never interested in the show, and only watched a bit here and there from Season 1-3, but I also want to watch this "live debate" episode.

Season's 1-3 had some amazing episodes, but I haven't been a devoted follower by any means. Tonight's episode looks interesting, so I'll watch.

Thought the debate was excellent, and it will probably make me tune into the remainder of the season to see how things wrap up- even though I haven't watched the show since Sorkin left. Furthermore, it has inspired me to make a run down to blasted Wal-Mart to buy seasons 1 & 2 of The West Wing while they are still 20 bucks. Looks like the little publicity stunt/episode paid off for NBC, at least if I'm any example.

I heart Alan Alda.

I just noticed, after declaring my immediate plans to begin watching this again, that it will be pre-empted for the next three weeks. Sweeps "specials," you see.

Good job there, NBC. That's some more masterful, post-Friends NBC scheduling. Keep it up.

Fuck-ups, the lot of them.

And, as much as I liked the episode, it certainly wasn't very believable. And the "war for oil" pledge stuff...awkward and poorly written, to put it nicely. I cringed. As though any President would ever ADMIT to a war for oil. I understand their social conscious made them put it in....but it really, really didn't work.

Yeah, other than the crowd cheerings and jeerings, which felt extremely manufactured, I thought it was pretty great.

And I don't know, guys. Although I didn't like his politics, I thought Alan Alda's Republican Vinick was more compelling than Smits' Santos.

That's because Alan Alda is a much better, more nuanced actor than Jimmy Smits. And he's always intriguing, no matter the role. As I said above: I heart Alan Alda.

But regardless of my love for Mr. Alda, I'd still vote for Santos. I thought his "liberal" speech and especially his closing statement was fantastic.

Yeah, I thought the 'liberals ended segregation, etc.' thing was the most effective part of his speech.

Isn't Alan Alda actually a hardcore Democrat in real life?

Indeed he is. 100% Liberal. Watch him in Woody Allen's Everybody Says I Love You where, I suspect, Alda was basically playing himself. He has a crisis because his son has become....a REPUBLICAN! (The cause behind the son's conversion sets up possibly the funniest punch line Woody has ever written. Check it out.)

No, West Wing jumping the shark took place about three years ago, when Aaron Sorkin left. It was literally unwatchable for two years. I suspect, however, that a reverse jump may have taken place in this, the final year of the show.

It's the Alda factor. It could even revive that bloated corpse of TV show, Alias.

I thought jumping the shark was a tv show trying something new and "out there" to attract viewers, like the Fonz "jumping the shark" on Happy Days
