Freedomland (2005)

Plot Summary: When her son disappears and is believed to be dead, a single mother blames an African-American man from the projects for the kidnapping... (more)

Credited cast:
Samuel L. Jackson .... Lorenzo Council
Julianne Moore .... Brenda Martin
Edie Falco .... Karen Collucci
Ron Eldard .... Danny Martin

**************************************

Based on the trailer there seems to be lots going on in this movie.

- Interesting cast
- Missing Kid - like tv's without a trace and JM does another missing child movie like last years the forgotten
- some nice race questions

Etc.

This loosely based off that woman who drove her three kids into the lake?

Saw the trailer during the first episode of Nip/Tuck. It looks interesting and I'm a fan of SLJ (who isn't?) so I'll definitely see it.

The three leads are great but the film is helmed by Joe Roth, director of such masterpieces as America's Sweethearts and Christmas with the Kranks, so I wonder about this one.

he also directed the classic Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise.

This was a possible Oscar hopeful, but it was recently moved (dumped) in February of 2006.

I swear I thought it was a sequel to The Forgotten before the title came up in the trailer.

Does Samuel L Jackson's character like you know gets into SLJ mode and responds with "Hell no woman! You think I kidnapped your son. Heck no. Get out of here before I put my foot up your ass"?

Yeah, it looks pretty shit. The director just screams run away in fear. If it gets good reviews maybe I'll see it... but I don't think so.

well so far one good early review.........

Freedomland
By Sheri Linden
Hollywood Reporter.com

Bottom line: Crime is merely the starting point for this dark, involving drama

"Freedomland" is a sober, unsettling drama that uses the framework of a police procedural to explore matters of individual madness and the collective madness of racism. Adapting his 1998 novel, Richard Price has fashioned a stripped-down, elegantly written tale that's topical without being heavy-handed. The film is, above all, a moving portrait of hurting souls, brought to life in compelling performances.

.......................... review continues

but that sounds pretty good for starters.
