Quote:
Forrest Gump is a 1994 American comedy-drama film based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The film was directed by Robert Zemeckis, starring Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, and Gary Sinise. The story depicts several decades in the life of Forrest Gump, an Alabama simpleton who travels across the world, meeting historical figures, influencing popular culture, and experiencing firsthand some of the historic events of the late 20th century.

The film differs substantially from Winston Groom's novel on which it was based. Filming took place in late 1993, mainly in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Extensive visual effects were used to incorporate the protagonist into archived footage and to develop other scenes. An extensive soundtrack was featured in the film, and its commercial release made it one of the top selling albums of all time. It sold 4.42 million copies.

Released in the United States on July 6, 1994, Forrest Gump was well received by critics and became a commercial success as the top grossing film in North America released that year. The film earned over $677 million worldwide during its theatrical run. The film garnered multiple awards and nominations, including Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, People's Choice Awards, and Young Artist Awards, among others. Since the film's release, varying interpretations have been made of the film's protagonist and its political symbolism. In 1996, a themed restaurant opened based on the film, and has since expanded to multiple locations worldwide. The scene of Gump running across the country is often referred to when real life people attempt the feat.

A movie I totally love with the best performance ever, IMO. #2 of my all-time faves. Countless memorable moments. Tom Hanks more than deserved his oscar. A+

Incredible movie. I can't say much about it, for fear of doing it injustice.

I love this movie, it's in my all-time 25. I understand people who say that it's too overly sentimental, but, well, it worked well for me. It is one of the very few movies that rbought me really close to crying. Tom Hanks is in the best role of his career and the directing is superb.

I make no apologizes for thinking that Forrest Gump is an overlong, tedious, vaguely insulting movie made by people who should know better. I'm not here to rain on everybody's parade; I know a lot of people like it, and that's cool. But I hate it with a fervor reserved for a select few. Furthermore, the movie's ideology seems, well, evil. The book is satire. The movie is not.

To see this story done right, I just watch BEING THERE.

A+, Shawshank was no where near as good as this, but it was still a tremendous movie, Forrest Gump is just that good.

B+ It's a very hard movie to not love, but that doesn't change the fact that I think it's also somewhat flawed.

A very decent movie, but I have no idea how it grossed well over 300 million dollars, not how it won Tom Hanks, the film, and the director Oscars, when both Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption came out the same year. Poor Shawshank couldn't get anybody to come and watch it in theaters.

Glad it won over the overlong boring pointless, cliched, crap Shawshank and the pseudo-"genius" of Pulp Fiction. A.

I dont understand all the backlash against this movie. Its truely a great movie thats both depressing and uplifting at the same time. I know 1994 was a difficult year for the oscars when it had to compete against Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redepmtion. Just because it won over those two other movies, people shouldnt suddenly discount the movie at all. It still holds up well against generation after generation
