I was hugely susprised by how good-hearted, well-made, well-acted and interesting this movie was. I didn't feel bored for a second. There are laughs, there are tense scenes, but mostly it is just a very interesting movie and one of the best of its kind. I wish more kid movies were this way nowadays.

What an underrated film! No one really talked about it. The book was great, and this movie did it justice. All the actors are great, especially the one from Even Stevens.

Good Disney movie. Better than the book for sure.

Harmless kid's flick, decently made, but it never really captures the magic of the novel. The dialogue was cringe-worthy at times, and the story wasn't set up nearly as nicely as the book. The flashback scenes were done quite awkwardly as well. Still, it had its moments, and it wasn't poorly done. Just failed to live up to the novel.

Agreed on almost all accounts, except I might have to give this an A-, although just barely.

This was the most off-beat and engaging story I've seen in a movie in quite some time! I really, really enjoyed it and was seriously charmed by it's bittersweet tone. It's being marketed as a kid's movie by Disney, but after seeing it, this is one film I surprisingly might have reservations about taking children to. I don't exactly know what cause me to have that feeling, but somehow the film struck a dark chord in me. Nonetheless, I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a melancholy sort of story, and needs a break from the mindless special effects pics like X2.

4 out of 5.

(P.S.: I haven't read the book...)

This was one of my favorite movies of the year it came out. Totally delightful, and a near-perfect adaptation of the book. A

Very fun film, not to mention a worthy adaptation of the book.

Happened across it on BBC one earlier today. Grabbed my attention and didn't let go. Great, great film.

Cute, memorable children's book with a mediocre film translation. At least we got to see Sigourney Weaver on screen for a few precious moments.

"Delightful" isn't the last word I would choose to describe this film -- but it's way, way down the list...
