Does anybody else find it strange that such a film would be at #4 on yahoo's most visited previews? Is there that much interest in it, or is this some kind of Ang Lee/Hulk effect, as comic book movies dominate the chart, and nothing to do with it's box office prospects?

1. X3: X-Men 3
2. Spider-Man 3
3. Underworld: Evolution
4. Brokeback Mountain
5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
6. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
7. Superman Returns
8. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
9. Batman vs. Superman
10. Iron Man
11. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
12. Sin City 2
13. V for Vendetta
14. Jurassic Park IV
15. The Fast and the Furious 3
16. Batman: Year One
17. Indiana Jones 4
18. Mission: Impossible 3
19. The Simpsons Movie
20. An Unfinished Life

The trailer JUST came out on Yahoo. I think either today or yesterday.

Never underestimate the power of a gay film staring a gay heartthrob (even if that heartthrob is apparently straight).

At least on the internet.

Never underestimate the pull of the name that delivered the highest grossing import of all times either.

I saw the trailer for this actually. looks like it could be quite interesting. For anyone that's interested, there's a thread on it in you-know-where.

The film is adapted from a short story that has a huige following, at least Internet-wise.

It is not a comparable fanbase to any of the comic-book movies or anything, It´s still a niche, small film; but many people are anticipating it. I should know, I am one of them. :shades:

And just got excellent reviews at Venice film Festival. A couple of awards wouldn´t hurt a bit.

The movie will have quite a limited audience I think. Might perform closely to Ang Lee's Ice Storm that was somewhat similarily themed. Will top out at $10 million at most probably.

I guess that is also the goal, but you have to take into account that if this gets more award consideration than "Ice storm" - which for all its good reviews, didn´t receive many - It could go higuer than that.

Who's the heartthrob, Jake or Heath? I am so out of the loop anymore. I'll tell you though, I thought this was going to be huge (relatively, $40-50m) until I found out the subject matter (not sure why I thought it would do so well before, reall all I had read was just buzz on HSX). I might wait until DVD (more of a like to see, as opposed to must see), but it looks pretty good. Jarhead looks really good as does History of Violence, so those would be the ones I would make an effort to see. How long will it be until people start calling this Bareback Mount?

Heh, I think that's already started to happen.

Well I applaud everyone who was involved with this movie for taking on such a subject, it'll be a hard sell not only because of the fact it's about homosexuality, but it's about how people are ashamed to admit they're homosexuals ( which is very common in todays society, so many married men are in the closest ) So it's gonna be a real hard sell, but I think it'll be a good movie that will bring curious people into the theaters and live on some nice wom. Also you never know, it could end up with oscar potential.

Many of the little gay emo boys around the office think Jake is some sort of god.

I don't know why, I would think he's pretty unattractive.

See I would have thought it was Heath. I guess that is why I am straight, I can't tell who are the good looking guys. Jake has a weird look, he looks good in some photos, but he has an odd look most of the time. I don't know what is wrong with his sister. I used to think she was kind of cute but she is aging really quickly. She can't be more than 30 and looks like someone in their late 30s whose had a hard life. Anyone know if she have a drug/alcohol problem?

I will probably see the movie if it gets really good reviews, but it seems like it would be pretty depressing. One of those movies you feel like have to see. Of course I am usually wrong about half the time with movies I feel fall into that category. I felt the same way about MDB and that movie I found oddly uplifting (sad of course) and quite good.

I sure hope it is a better movie than Ice Storm which I found very very underwhelming.

It seems it is...

"Anne Proulx's 1997 short story in the New Yorker has been masterfully expanded by screenwriters Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana to provide director Lee with his best movie since "Sense and Sensibility" in 1995."

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr/re ... 1001054462

"Take Brokeback Mountain: the director’s most complete and accomplished film to date comes across as the late masterpiece of an auteur dedicated to chronicling the demise of the American Dream".

http://www.screendaily.com/story.asp?st ... 209&r=true

"An achingly sad tale of two damaged souls whose intimate connection across many years cannot ever be properly resolved, this ostensible gay Western is marked by a heightened degree of sensitivity and tact, as well as an outstanding performance from Heath Ledger".

http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117928 ... id=31&cs=1

There are more very good to great ones. The only negative thing I have read so far was a David Poland review, but he seemed to have ideological, not cinematographic, issues with it.

Wow, a good performance from Heath Ledger? I was just about to write that he's the one who I am the most concerned about since I know Gyllenhaal can pull it off well. The reviews sound pretty good and while the movie looks as unappealing to me as it can get (I am not a fan of Ang Lee and the topic of gay cowboys is not my cup of tea) I might see it based on the reviews alone if they keep up.

There is talk of him getting the Volvi Cup at the Venice Film Festival this Saturday... If he gets a few awards with all these raves, we could hear soon: "Academy award nominee Heath Ledger..." :hahaha:

Reading from IMDb user reviews and OscarWatch forums, the film basically conquered the audience at Venice Film Festival, with Ledger getting some of the best reviews of the year.

Hehe, it'll outgross King Kong...

I still think it's mostly because the trailer just came out

Heh. Remember when House of Wax was in the top three of that chart for weeks?

It's because of the trailer just being released, like Lecter said.

I agree, as its trailer being No. 1 on Yahoo's most downloaded list. Trailer release is normally the time when a film suddenly starts to appear everywhere and then moved back down until the week of its actual release.

Yep, but this is a small indie film, Paris Hilton-less. I guess that makes a difference
