The judges pretty much make themselves look like jackasses everytime they open their mouths, so..... And didn't Sass say that Daryl was.........brace yourself..........amazing .
I'm tired of being the party pooper every week here, but tonight was just godawful once again. I think I've seen enough to state that this is perhaps the weakest top 10 I have seen of all of the American and Canadian Idol seasons. This year's crop is plagued by 3 "rockers" who come across as posers to me (Rex and Josh moreso than Suzi) and simply cannot sing very well. Attitude ony gets you so far, yet it gives these three a free pass every time they perform and the judges gush. I respect that Josh sticks to his guns and his sort of indie/rock mindset, but man, the guy just can't carry a tune with all that nasally "nyah, nyahing" =; . I was appalled at the extremely amatuerish nature of Suzi's performance. It seemed phoned in. Rex..........just crap.
Above these three are Daryl (man did that song and that kid not mix well), Amber (snoooooze), Casey (ok vocally, but she really can't perform), Aaron (good, he's a solid performer each week) and the saving grace of the show - Melissa (very good, both the performance and her vocals.....she really has a spark, but for some reason Canada hasn't come around to her, yet).

While I agree that this is probably the weakest top 10 yet, I don't think they're as awful as you make them out to be. We do have some people that have really good voices like Suzi (Just look back to the audition when she sang Whitney Huston. Wow), Amber (Boring, but she does have a good voice), Aaron and Melissa (She's just perfection). And Rex is not that bad. He may not have the most powerful voice of the bunch, but he does have some range and is also a great performer. The bad ones are really dreadful(Casey, Daryl, Josh) though, I give you that.

I think that Rex is that bad. And Suzi really should do a ballad next and then I'll make a final decision on her.

Well, in response to Benny, I'd say Rex and Suzi are much better than Ryan Malcom and *giggles* Gary Beals.
As for tonight, it was pretty decent. (mind you, Canadian Idol standards do apply)
1. Melissa - Her song selection was poor, but the fact that she did so good with it speaks volumes. She has charisma to burn!
2. Josh - For once I liked him. There was an inner spirit about the performance that I really enjoyed.
3. Suzi - The song choice was generic and predictable, but her stage presence and full-throatle vocals made it memorable. I like her, she reminds me of the singer from Bif Naked.
4. Rex - He's still my favorite to win, however this week wasn't his best. Props for taking on a kareokee staple and pulling it off though.
5. Amber - There's a fine line between understated talent and being boring. This week, I think she fell in the later.
6. Daryl - I'll give him an 'A' for effort, but the whole thing just felt...wrong.
7. Casey - I'll give her credit for the song choice, but her performance was anemic. It's just such an amazing song that you have to sing it with passion...and she didn't.
8. Aaron - The song choice was terrible. His Tom Jones-style approach didn't help much either. It was an odd fit with two terrible parts.

It's utterly ridiculous that Daryl and Casey are still in the competition and Amber is not. And don't get me started on the terrible bottom 3 choices. Suzi, Amber, and Josh? Stupid Canada. Stupid stupid stupid.
And I'll ask again: does anybody know if there is a website that has copies of the songs the idols sing each week?

Wait, you're the one who thinks Casey, Daryl, and Aaron are three of the best on the show. I find it hard to take your opinion seriously. Hehe. No offense, just... I completely disagree when you named 3 people on the show as the best that I think are probably about the worst.

Canada, you have gone too far now. Amber didn't have the best performance last night, but she should have been at least the top 4. This is disgusting to me and my little respect for this show has been smashed to bits after this. Suzi in the bottom as well after her fantastic performance? I'm appauled and ashamed. Casey and Daryl are by far 2 of the worst contestansts to ever appear on this show and their success is mind boggling. This is the third time this year (maybe fourth, I'm not too sure about Emily) where a very talented lady has been eliminated in favor of the crap of Daryl and Casey. This has just made me start to question wether this show is even worth my time anymore when all that happens is that the cute boys go far, no matter how badly they sing.

Oh another thing. Would you guys mind putting spoiler warnings on anything about the results show before 8, since I know in a lot of places (including here) it doesn't air until 7:30.

Let me straighten this out. I'm probably biased towards Casey since I made an insanely early prediction that she would win the whole thing. I still think she has a very good voice, it's just suited to those slow, jazzy type songs. I am well aware that she can't perform worth a damn. I have never liked Daryl. What I'm saying is is that it was great that those three (Josh, Suzi and Amber) were in the bottom 3 because they deserved it from their performances last night. Amber was never going to win this and neither will Daryl, so it doesn't bother me that much in which order they leave. And Aaron is a million times better than the other males in this competition. It is as much a mystery to me how anyone could even like Rex or Josh, because as well as they perform, or as cute as they are (sexy Rexy ) they are incredibly awful singers. Suzi delivered a pretty bad performance last night, one that virtually mimicked all her others and the vocal was all over the place and wannabe tough sounding. However, she's way better than Josh and Rex and I reserve full judgement on her until she sings a ballad or atleast something that isn't rock (next week's standards show might give her the opportunity). The clear-cut best of the group right now is Melissa. She's the only one I really get that spark from when she performs, but even she teeters on the brink of disaster when she jumps into her upper register.

I'm biased towards Casey solely because she's the closest thing I have to someone from around here (she's from New Brunswick and I'm from Nova Scotia). Obviously, I have to root for talent close to me. I don't think she's the best, but she isn't the worst. I want to see her get better each week, but I don't want her to win, either. Weird, I know.
Also, to explain Casey's success, she is the closest thing to homegrown talent for New Brunswick, as well as Newfoundland, PEI and Nova Scotia. I would say she represents Atlantic Canada, and THAT is why she is not in the bottom three. Otherwise, she'd be gone.

I was referring to your previous post where you specifically said that Daryl, Casey, Aaron (and Melissa, but I agree with her) were above the rest. I'm not a fan of Rex at all. Infact, he's one my least favourite, but he wasn't in the bottom 3, was he? I would have cheered if he was. Instead, Suzi, who is the only true rocker on the show and had a good performance last night, and Amber, who has a better voice than both Daryl and Casey (and Daryl and Casey can't even perform well, so they suck in both aspects) were in the bottom 3. Then there is Josh, who I think is really good, but even if you don't (and I can understand, a lot of people don't like his style) it was not even close for his turn to go. Casey and Daryl both sucked, again, this week. Casey started off well (the first line of music was awesome - then she fell off a cliff), and Daryl was just plain crummy and nervous and uncomfortable again. He's the farthest away from being Canadian Idol material. (Sass is on crack. Daryl is amazing? BS.) So yeah, the bottom 3 this episode sucked, in my opinion, and I don't agree with your assessment and your opinion on who is apparently the best.

Casey's avoidance of the bottom three is a big mystery. I would normally think it may be because she's from Atlantic Canada and she's getting all their support (AC is the new Hawaii!), but isn't Rex from Newfoundland? I'd assume he'd get the larger portion of the AC-pride vote, considering he's a stronger vocalist and argualby imbodies more of that Atlantic charm (or whatever you want to call it )
I dunno, maybe the song selection was strong enough to mask the kareokee-ness of the performance. Or mabe votefortheworst.com is enough to swing enough votes her way for now. It's a pickle for sure though.
Anyway, as for Amber, I'm honestly a bit disapointed. I had hoped to see her at least make the Top 5, but this type of thing seems to happen at least once per season. She proved to Canada in her first two performances that she's a great singer, but she failed to keep her momentum going.

Well, can we agree that Melissa is the best? rink:
I can't help but think how much better Elena Juatco was than anyone in this year's top 10 and she finished, what, 5th or 6th? Sad.

Now that I can definately agree with. Elena was really good. The top 10 this year is definately overall poorer.

I was just saying the exact same thing. Pretty much the entire top 6 (Well maybe except for Jacob *shudders* and Jason) are better than this entire group. If one of them was in this group, it would have been a cakewalk. And I think I've become an obsessive fan once again. Last year it was for Shane and Theresa (My votes reached into the hundreds ) and last night I voted a lot for Melissa. I don't even remember the amount of times

When I judge a season of Idol, I go by how many singers can actually have recording careers. Last year there where three -- Kalan, Theresa and Jacob. True Jason and Shane released LPs, but seriously...did anyone buy them.
Season one, the only person I feel who had true star potential was Audrey. There where better singers from technical standpoints (Ryan, Toya), but she was the only person who had that star potential. I think I heard somewhere that she's released a French-language album and that it did fairly well.
This season, we have two potential stars: Rex and Suzi. If Rex could tap into the Nickleback-type market when he releases his album, he could do well. So could Suzi if she mines the lucrative Canadian alt-rock genre. (Alt-rock is in Canada what Rap and Hip-Hop are in the US)

Well what do you know, that was a pretty good night of singing. A few of these kids really sunk their claws into this material and we got some pretty good performances.
Melissa was excellent. The quality of the vocal and her charming mannerisms were perfect. She seems to be the clear front-runner to win the whole thing next to Rex, who for all that is holy, better not go all the way. Next best for me was Aaron and Suzi. Suzi showed me a little more of her potential by singing a non-rock song and Aaron was just completely within his element with the standards.
Things start to go a little downhill from there. I would place Casey next because, despite her awkward bobbing back and forth delivery, she showed she does indeed have one of the best voices in the competition (take that for what it's worth). Rex put on a nice show as usual and probably gave his best vocal performance of any week, but it was still average-below average. Josh and Daryl are tied for worst of the night. Josh pretty much whispered his song, which I was kind of thankful for since I didn't have to hear any wailing and Daryl was just being Daryl.
Bottom 3 will be Daryl, Casey and Josh and I predict Casey to go home.

This has to be the best night of Canadian Idol so far this season. Everyone gave their best performances to date and I don't know who to rank as first tonight. (Well at least I know Casey and Daryl won't get it). So, I refuse to rank them tonight, besides Casey and Daryl who sucked.
Suzi- She really showed what she could do besides rock and had fun with it. Great performance
Aaron- Completely in his element. Vocals were perfect and it was fantastic.
Melissa- She is perfect. She has to win this thing or else I will shoot myself.
Josh- Man this guy is growing on me. His best performance to date and he didn't do all his weird wailing things tonight, which makes it a million times better!
Rex- Really showed off his range with a really great song. Fantastic.
So these 5 were perfect and I refuse to rank them. But then there was Casey and Daryl.
6. Casey- Some bright spots and probably her best performance to date, but it's still seriously lacking. She needs to go.
7. Daryl- I agree 100% with the judges on him. Man did that suck.
Sadly, I think Daryl is safe from the bottom 3 since he was blasted by the judges and the fans will come out in droves to vote for him. I'm thinking the bottom 3 will be Casey, Josh and Melissa with Josh probably going home. But if anyone else besides Casey or Daryl goes home, it's a slap in the face and makes this show look even worse.

Just some quick thoughts, this being the first show I've watched in a while.
Casey's voice cracking was priceless, at least she didn't seem off put by it. Darryl is indeed horrible, but will probably manage another week, god knows why. I thought Rex sang that song much too fast. I'm a fan of the Buble version and I just couldn't find one enjoyable note in Rex's version. Suzy made the mistake of singing my favourite Tamyra Gray Idol song, and yeah - it didn't hold up well.
Go Melissa, but knowing Canada - she'll be gone tomorrow.

Not too bad of a night.
This was certainly Aaron's night to shine. It was "his genre", for sure.
Darly is absolutely dreadful, and I hope America can see the light and finally vote him out.
