Excellence in TV Awards - Unsticky this, sticky other
After much discussion, we seem to have come to a good conclusion on categories for the 4th annual Excellence in Television awards (aka World of KJ Television Awards). Basically, if you're new to this, it's like all of our award shows (Poster awards, movie awards, etc.), except for television. You send me anywhere from 3 to 6 nominees per category (no more, no less please, if possible), and once all is said and done, we will have 5 or 6 nominees per category (not sure on the number yet), except for Guest Star, which will see 8 nominees, since we are including drama and comedy for that category. So, without further ado, here are the categories:
Excellence in a Dramatic Series
Excellence in a Comedy Series
Excellence in An Animated Series
Excellence in a Reality/Game Show
Excellence in a Lead Role, Actor in a Drama
Excellence in a Lead Role, Actor in a Comedy
Excellence in a Lead Role, Actress in a Drama
Excellence in a Lead Role, Actress in a Comedy
Excellence in a Supporting Role, Actor in a Drama
Excellence in a Supporting Role, Actor in a Comedy
Excellence in a Supporting Role, Actress in a Drama
Excellence in a Supporting Role, Actress in a Comedy
Excellence in a Single Episode, Comedy
Excellence in a Single Episode, Drama
Excellence in a Guest Star, Drama or Comedy
Excellence in an Opening Sequence
Excellence in a Talk Show
Excellence in Gameplay, Reality/Game Show Contestant
Excellence in a Special Episode, Series or Season Finale
Excellence in Classic Television: The Excellence in TV Awards Hall of Fame Inductees
NOTES:
-For the Hall of Fame award, we will induct three shows into the hall of fame. Any show that did NOT air this season at all, that has finished its run is eligible. Nominate anything from Futurama to All in the Family, from Friends to Seinfeld, Melrose Place to Beverly Hills 90210. Anything that deserves Hall of Fame status in your eyes.
-Please choose three to six nominees for ALL categories, excluding the Hall of Fame award (for that, just nominate three). Anything less is a real hassle for me, since we need five or six nominees per category.
-Which brings me to the number of nominees per category. Five or six? Let me know.
-If an actor like Adam Brody is nominated, put him where the series is considered (drama). It's a supporting role for an actor in a dramatic series, so it doesn't matter that he is more of a comedic character on the series.
-For Your Consideration will go in this thread. This is not going to have much of a purpose, since you won't be discussing much, so any shows, actors or actresses that you think will get overlooked, let us all know here so we don't forget.
-Deadline for Nominating: Monday, July 4th, 2005 *subject to change, if necessary*
-Voting for Winners Deadline: Monday, July 11th, 2005 *subject to change, if necessary*
-Awards Date: Sunday, July 17th, 2005 *also subject to change, if necessary)
I assume since we didn't have much talk about it that we won't do the usual award business. We'll see how many people actually nominate and vote, and if there's enough interest, I'll do the awards business with a co-host.
If I get a lot of nominations, I may ask for your help, Raffiki, since you did kindly offer first. But, I may not get much nominations for this. Anyway, send me all nominations through PM, and I will ask that you refrain from posting nominees here. For Your Consideration is welcome, but ballot lists isn't really necessary. I cannot say not to, but I feel it takes away from the surprise. Thanks, and happy nominating!
PS: Be sure to put a link in your signatures for this thread, so others will stop by. I'll set up a Water Cooler thread next week, for anyone not frequently in the TV forum.

We finally have it up.
I think all the categories are good. We took a long time, but I'm sure the majority is more than pleased.

FYI - For these I am wondering if you want more explaination.
*********************
Excellence in a Single Episode, Comedy
Excellence in a Single Episode, Drama
***********************
I am guessing that you want the episode's name.
Then I think that you should put a link to bring the people to a tv site - then the people can list the show - say Lost - and look at the names the show's episode that they want to pick.

A couple questions:
1. Are shows that just started their summer runs eligible for nomination? Shows like Six Feet Under and 30 Days, for instance, just started their seasons within the past couple weeks.
2. Category confusion: Are we considering Boston Legal (FYC James Spader, by the way) a comedy or a drama?

Good question - Especially for the episodes question and also others > what are the allowed dates for these awards.

If shows start in the summer, doesn't that mean that their previous season aired last summer? Since this award show is around after every network season, summer shows eligibility would probably fall on last summer's season.
As for the category confusion... that is a really good question. Really good!
I would say Comedy but I am bias because I have way too many dramas and actors in dramas and would find it easier placed in comedy. But it is sort of like Ally Mcbeal, so I don't know. Was Ally Mcbeal considered a drama or a comedy?
By the way, I am assuming Housewives is comedy... otherwise I will have some serious problems.
And on a side note... can everyone see ALL the pictures in my FYC post? Cuz I saw them after I posted it but I don't see alot of them now. Please let me know.

I looked through all the network websites and all their shows. I don't seem to watch a vast variety of shows.
I already placed Arrested Devlopment in a few nominations even though I never watch it because I want to support it. I know it has alot of fans and I am interested in watching it on DVD. I really don't mind placing some poster's plees into mine.
But, you did bring up a good point. I will look at the FYC ads. I made the first ones and I can't believe I didn't think of that.

Ally McBeal competed under Comedy. Boston Legal is Drama (according to the Emmys and the Golden Globes).
24 fans!!!!!
Nominate Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe - the Rambo tech-geek) and Shohreh Aghdashloo (Mommy Terrorist) for Excellence in a Supporting Role, Actress in a Drama.

All right, so Boston Legal = drama.
And yeah, Housewives is comedy.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense; therefore, 30 Days won't be eligible till next year. (And if, say, you're voting for Six Feet Under, you'll be voting based on season four, not the current season.)

Another question.
Recurring characters, like Harriet Sansom Harris on Desperate Housewives or Shohreh Aghdashloo on 24 would be considered guest actors, correct?

Not sure.
Because you've got "guest" actors like those who starred in many episodes this season, and then you've got, for instance, Sharon Stone, who starred in one episode of Will & Grace.
I was reading USA Today's Emmy recommendations, and they recommended Aghdashloo for supporting actress.

Hmm.
Well, I put her for Guest Actress. Let me know if I need to make changes, X.

I'd still put Shohreh in the "guest" category, that way for sure she'll be recognized as the supporting category could get crowded (Though she really is supporting, if we consider Emmy standards).

Boston Legal - drama.
Favorite episodes are individual episodes. And, if you really think so, fill it up with one show? Such as five episodes from "24", or five from "Alias" or whatever. Here's a site that can help: http://www.tv.com
Guest stars... hmm... this is tough. I think we should come to an agreement on guest stars by episode numbers. Like, if a certain someone guest-starred for more than eight episodes, they're considered supporting characters, or something like that. We need to come to some sort of an agreement on that, I guess.
Only episodes of shows aired between June 1st, 2004 and May 31st, 2005 are eligible. No "30 Days" or "Dancing with the Stars", but "Six Feet Under is eligible either way. If the season premiere aired before the end of May (not sure at all), than that episode is eligible for favorite episode, ONLY if the last season aired in the deadline. Three episodes are NEEDED to be eligible, not one or two. If a series aired three or more episodes, it can be nominated.

The Emmys consider a guest star supporting if they appeared in more than 6 episodes (which is half a season for a cable show and a quarter of a full season for network shows).
GOOD thing I haven't submitted any yet! I knew there would be changes... hehe
