Neo, so we can't actually start the book until April 1st right? Even though you are announcing it tomorrow?

You can get it and read it as soon as you :) We'll open up the chat for the book at April 15th and hopefully everyone will be done or close to being done. that way we can have a group discussion without having to spoiler things.

Oscar, I suggest when you do the announcement page that you start a new thread with it. That will then be the thread where we discuss that book. I don't think this thread should be where the monthly book discussions go because it will get too long and people will have trouble referring back to the discussions if they pick up the books at a later date. I think each month we should start a thread for whatever book is being read that month, with the first page being the announcement page by the host that month. Anyways, I'll try to keep a tight thread archive for it.

Sorry I was late. neostorm, so sorry that I haven't replied your message. This is really a great idea, and I definitely like to sign up. I may have trouble to read one on a monthly basis, but I will try to keep up.

I still think it would be better to pull names out of a hat for selectying the month's hosters for the discussion of the book, but oh well.

I'll take up the November 2005 slot bitte.

Sommie, I actually agree with you. I already left june for that reason, but looks like its already been filled. At 30 members, anyone who joins now is going to have to wait two and a half years to present a book. Seriously, we need to devise a system that at least gives people a chance heh. I think the easiest thing is for the host (neostorm) to assign each person a number (that only he knows) and have someone pick a number each month (a random member, or a designated one). Whoever had that number gets to present the next book. That's just a thought. Whatever everyone wants works. I know some people have already picked a book and are excited. Maybe people that don't have their heart set yet on a particular book want to step down and leave that month open for numbers/random selection?

I have an idea, since there are so many members, maybe we could select two books a month (possible even three) and have three spearate discussions.

We could stagger the discussions, for example, one occurs on April 15th, the next one starts April 25th.

We can spilt the book club up into three groups: A, B, C...and jsut make sure the three books selected are different: a thriller, something funny, a sci-fi..something like that.

You have to read the book for your group, and you can read the books for the other groups if you want.

For now we can all read Life of Pi, but I have April, why not have two other people also select books, the three of us can discussion our selections.

We can either randomly assign groups, or allow people to sign for a particular book, with the cap being 10 member sto a group. That way each book gets discussed, and each member gets a chance to select a book once a year.

I know it is a bit complicated, but I think it could work.

Just a thought...

That's a good idea, maybe we can try it depending on the success of April? If there is a huge turnout in discussion, then we can go with it, but if not, then stick to 1 so as not to split it?

Just a thought.

I think for right now 30 is a good number to be able to have a continuous discussion about things. I honestly think that only about 20 will read it, so no reason to dillute the discussion more already.

I've been really busy, and I'll be even more busy this summer, so unfortunately I can't really participate in this much, so someone else can pick for July. :???:

OK, Korrgan. Well I haven't heard from lmr either, so I guess would people mind if I picked a book? Or would you like to go ahead Rogue? Or has the thought of reading have no place in a movie forum? I'm willing to give it a try, but with flagging interest, I won't suggest someone push a new book next month unless people are still interested?

I'm so sorry I haven't been able to participate in this, seeing that I signed up. I promise that I'll read the next two months since it's summer and I don't have classes. I promise!

I'm not really in the club, but a really good book is...

ABC Murders by Agatha Christie.

I'd say it's probably my favorite by her, and probably one of the top crime/mystery books that I've ever read IMO. She really hit her peak perfection in that one.
