I now think Top 5 and Top 10 records of Spirited Away and /or Your Name are achievable though it still looks difficult to catch up with Titanic.

Shin Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Day 1 827,742,000 yen 539,623 people
Re: Japan Box-Office: Evangelion FINALLY Opens; New Mon. Rec
So it just barely took the record then, that's great. Day 2 already dropped to about 40% of its OD so I wonder what we should even expect come weekend for it.

It's a frontloaded franchise and given that it's weekdays I totally assume Evangelion will drop big for next few days before slight increase over weekend days from previous days. Its OD will handily be its biggest day throughout its run.

Another big fall for demon slayer today who is no longer in the top 5. Personally I think that ¥39B and 28M-29M admissions will be the last objectives before the end of his run which is greatly slowed down because of Evangelion .

I believe there is a change that it might do less than previous film since the series clearly depends on early rush factor. Right now I am thinking a number closer to last film in ¥5.3b-¥5.5b range.

Excellent. It's close, but it's just enough where we can call this as the new Monday record in revenue. Monday record broken twice in the last 6 months now.
For those asking what we can expect from it in the end, it's difficult to project from a Monday opening because it's never happened before. However, Evangelion is a fan-base driven franchise with very little or no casual appeal, and shouldn't be too tricky to project.
The same people that came to see the previous film (which sold 3.85 million admissions) will likely show up again here since they're among the most loyal fanbase in the market, but being the finale of the series, after almost 10-years worth of delays, should net it a bit more from possibly original fans coming out and/or repeat viewings from the most diehard fans since this is the finale. I'd expect it to reach 4 million admissions, which could get it a little above ¥6 billion (~$55 million).

Evangelion's opening day was the biggest opening day (or single-day) ever for the month of March. So it claimed the records for Biggest Monday Ever in addition to Biggest March Opening Day (Single-Day) as well.
Its opening day alone would rank it as the fourth biggest opening weekend in the month of March, and its first 2-days (Mon. and Tues.), if you would include that as its opening weekend (just for comparison purposes only), would be the biggest opening weekend ever in March.
Biggest March Opening Weekends (1998-): Weekend Gross ¥ ($) / Admissions [Screen Count] - Film (Release Date) ---¥1.195 bllion ($11.0 million) / 777,000 [N/A] - Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time (2021) *2-Day Est. Hikaru Utada's single "One Last Kiss", the theme song for the final Evangelion film. I'm sure most here are aware, but just in case some aren't, the legend's music has been synonymous with the Rebuild Evangelion releases, having done the theme song for all four films.
Utada held the world record for fastest selling album for 14-years with 2001's Distance (selling 3,002,720 copies in its first week from Japan alone) until Adele broke it in 2015.

Oh, and thanks everyone for getting this thread above 3 million views! I watch it a bit when it gets near certain milestones, and as it was approaching 3 million, it gained almost 15,000 views since Saturday.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Note: Mon.-Fri. are rounded estimates (excluding Holiday Mondays), therefore adding up each day won't equal the exact actual total.
So it's obviously slowed down, its first actual slow down ever since opening day. Evangelion took its 4DX screens, which has hit it pretty hard. Over the past couple of months, Demon Slayer has been thriving from the strength of it 4DX showings as they were by the far its most popular format and in turn drove its average ticket price up as a result.
And for this week's daily estimates, I'm taking ¥200 off of its average ticket price to account for the loss of the 4DX showings.
Also, it did bounce back a bit on Wednesday (off ~40%) from the initial hits it took on Monday and Tuesday, so I'd expect it to still hold well moving forward. The days of it staying flat for months on end are likely gone though, so we'll need to be satisfied with good ol' regular 30/35% declines or so as it stabilizes again in a few days/next week.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Evangelion FINALLY Opens; New Mon. Rec
Some of these McDonald's employees are making some money! Not surprised by this. A similar case recently occurred here with McDonald's in the U.S. with the 25th Anniversary Pokémon cards. Employees were stealing the cards ahead of launch (even post-launch) and selling them online.
Pokémon card popularity has exploded in the U.S. again (you're lucky to find any card products in stores anywhere now) and scalpers are taking advantage of their surge in prices by selling them for ridiculous prices online. I haven't see a single Pokémon card pack at my local Wal-Mart or other nearby retailers in several months. You can't even get them on Amazon unless you're willing to buy from a third party for 4/5x the MSRP. A booster pack from the most recent set is going for $15 each, and a booster box is going for $400/500+ (if you can even find one listed).
P.S. If anyone here has any older Pokémon cards (that were printed by Wizards of the Coast from 1998-2003) that are in mint-condition, especially if they're 1st edition, you're looking at several hundreds of dollars and well into the thousands for various single-cards now. Even typically non-popular single-cards that used to go for $3-5 at best are easily fetching $25/50 or more, and can easily exceed $100/200 if 1st edition or graded.
The husband and I went through our collections (both of us began collecting back in 1998) a couple months back after hearing about the craziness happening, and estimated our collections to be valued at $27,000 (combined) based on medium market pricing at the time (probably higher now). I doubt our collections would have broke $2,000, or barely, before this all began. I own a Shining Charizard from 2000 (Neo Destiny set) that is great condition and they easily go for $1,000 on eBay right now. And a graded one (8+) doubles that price. This was always a pricy card, but I don't ever remember it being worth more than a $100/200 or so before the surge.

Maybe, but I doubt it. The craze hit the youtube star/social media influencers too, and they're largely based in LA or other major cities. Even bigger names like Logan Paul are in on it now and spending MILLIONS on cards now. They're one of the biggest reasons for the shortage of newer product, and are also contributing to the huge surge in prices for older cards (and old sealed product) since paying $1,000 for one card (or $100,000+ on some channels) is no issue and just nets them more views. Though they're mostly buying sealed product to open themselves.
It doesn't bother me personally; rather, it's caused my collection go to up like 10x in value. If the husband and I decided to sell our collection right now, we'd be $3,000 shy of paying off our MORTGAGE. I largely stopped buying cards 5+ years ago, and didn't buy too much a few years before then, but I have to imagine it's frustrating for fans and collectors (especially kids) who can't find any product in stores anymore or can't afford to buy a single card or two online they may want due to the explosion.
