Does this make it as the best selling single of the year? I saw a top where it only had it with 200k. Welcome to the forum. It is not. The year ended on December 13th, so it didn't reach 1 million before then. Not that that's anything to be ashamed of, obviously, it's just that it had only 10 weeks on the 2020 charts. LiSA did have the Top 2 Best Selling Digital Singles of 2020 though, first being Gurenge (942,691) and second being Homura (709,966). And over the next several weeks, Homura will likely outsell all but, maybe, the #1 single of 2020. Here are 2020's Top Selling Singles & Albums (12/9/19 - 12/13/20): Best Selling Singles 2020:01. 1,780,306 - SixTONES vs Snow Man – Imitation Rain / D.D. 02. 1,265,582 - Nogizaka46 – Shiawase no Hogoshoku 03. 1,187,338 - AKB48 – Shitsuren, Arigatou 04. 1,155,114 - Arashi – Kite 05. 1,052,471 - NiziU – Step and a step 06. 1,048,345 (1,438,010) - LiSA – Gurenge 07. 1,030,718 - Snow Man – KISSIN’ MY LIPS / Stories 08. 948,730 - LiSA – Homura 09. 917,753 - YOASOBI – Yoru ni Kakeru 10. 878,495 - Official HIGE DANdism – I LOVE… Best Selling Albums 2020:01. 1,970,930 - Yonezu Kenshi – STRAY SHEEP 02. 831,962 - Arashi – This is Arashi 03. 743,123 - BTS – MAP OF THE SOUL:7 ~THE JOURNEY~ 04. 717,249 - King Gnu – CEREMONY 05. 612,574 - King & Prince – L& 06. 555,120 - BTS – MAP OF THE SOUL:7 07. 534,415 - Official HIGE DANDism – Traveler 08. 315,876 - Mr. Children – SOUNDTRACKS 09. 302,081 - SEVENTEEN – 24H 10. 284,664 - Aimyon – Oishii Pasta ga Aru to Kiite A few notes: -Imitation Rain / D.D. is the first debut single in 14-years to top the yearly singles chart. -SixTONES vs Snow Man is the first male act in 11-years to top the yearly singles chart. -Gurenge is a May 2019 release, yet made the 2020 charts (including #1 digital single). Now I get it. Thanks, its just that it seemed weird to me that it was so low but actually it's only a 3 month old song compared to rest I believe. Thanks for your hard work in reporting everything about this blockbuster madness.

The incredibly long-standing record of 55-years held by Tokyo Olympiad is very likely to fall tomorrow. When this falls tomorrow, that's pretty much it. It's broken practically every record up to this point besides a couple weekend records (8th and 10th). There aren't any more records to really seek other than the remaining weekend records for the remainder of its run, and longevity-themed records like aiming to achieve the most weeks in the Top 5/10 and such. That's one record that might still fall in the future even with the declining population. In fact perhaps the declining population will make it easier to achieve depending on movie going habits ? Which age group sees the most movies per year in Japan on average ? Children ? Teenagers ? Middle age people ? The elderly ?

I think middle age audience is the biggest movie goers group In absolute terms, obviously, but I was wondering in per capita terms. If the average elderly sees more movies per year than the average middle age man/woman, then the ageing of the population will make it easier to break that record.

I think I've seen a report saying the average times of watching movies per year per capita is 10s > 20s > 30s > 40s > 50s > 60s > 70s

Hey, you're using the old record for the best week in Oricon's history Kimetsu sold 4 774 972 copies in the 2nd week of 2021 Thank you for noticing this mistake, I changed the week on my spreadsheet but didn't follow through with the sales number^^, you saved me from repeating this mistake week after week. I can't believe the Tokyo Olympiad record is going to fall down, it seems unreachable to me.

This makes Demon Slayer breaking the record even more impressive given the ageing of the Japanese population since 1965. The median age back then was 27.2 vs 48.4 today (and forecasted to be 54.7 in 2050).

No. Saturdays and Sundays can be lower than the weekdays during holiday periods since each day of the week during a holiday period behaves like a weekend. Regarding Friday, we all need to just wait and refrain from trying to predict things too much. Walk-ups are generally good during holidays, and in addition to Friday being a holiday, it's also a discount day. And in Demon Slayer's case, given its numbers have been so high, it'll naturally be more difficult for it to achieve bigger Friday jump than most of the other films in release. Need to be patient and wait to see how it, and everything else performs. All that said, COVID cases have been rising, and in my opinion, are nearing levels that could begin to impact the box office here soon. Not necessarily closing theaters, just that more and more people may start to stay home more often. The post-holiday drop-off could be pretty large. But this is all speculation right now, and I suggest not trying to predict how this may or may not impact the box office until there's evidence of an impact first.
