Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
A slight chance at 25 billion on Saturday, yes, but I'm not confident enough to put day 37 on that list above. Saturday is likely to be down a good deal versus last week. Keep in mind that last Saturday was the first day of the first giveaway (now gone, I think, unless a few rural locations still have them) and Toho Cinema Day. And there's the potential of audience loss from COVID concerns (again, no signs of that yet, but need to keep it in mind).
This Saturday will take a decent hit, but an expected hit. Its fourth Sunday was down 41% in admissions versus its third Sunday (national discount day), so I would expect something similar for this upcoming Saturday versus last Saturday. Sunday will hold much better though, and then of course there's the Monday holiday, too.
A strong Friday hold will of course help its chance of reaching the mark on Saturday.

Passing Spirited away would be later than that, so it’s pretty compatible with not passing SA’s total until late December.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Okay, LPLC: Take this back to the Twitter trolls you mentioned earlier:
At the usual locations: Saturday seating is at 670,478 (just 36% off versus last Saturday), exactly on par with the opening Saturday for the past uber-blockbusters. And showings are only down 19% versus last Saturday at 3,933 (even above Doraemon this weekend), and STILL above the highest known opening Saturday showtime count besides itself (Frozen II at 3,786). So you can say its sixth weekend, in terms of showings, is the sixth most ever, only behind its own first five weekends.

¥233m was its wk2 total, can you confirm what its wk3 total was? Thanks.

My bad, it's ¥290,429,000 ($2.8 million) after three weeks. Just edited the post, thank you.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Looks like this weekend is going to go known as the cry-your-eyes-out holiday weekend.
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has had a high percentage of audience members reporting crying/getting emotional. And now Stand By Me, Doraemon 2 is getting everyone emotional as well with Nobita's wedding that's been 50--real lifetime--years in the making. But tears sell. Many, most, of the biggest films in the market are tear-jerkers.

Corpse wrote: Glad you liked it, Jack. I'd like to discuss the film (and this arc in the story in general) more, but it's hard to do without posting spoilers (and does anyone really want post after post of spoiler tags?).
I feel like most of us have either read the manga to know what happens in the film, but I also know there are some anime-only viewers here, so out of respect for them, I'd suggest using spoiler tags talking about the movie or events in the movie. I'd like to have a more open discussion about the film here, too. Maybe a review thread in Everyone's A Critic?
But seriously, all the anime-viewers should read ahead, especially if you really enjoyed the anime as spoilers are growing increasingly hard to avoid. You only need to read volumes 7 and 8, which is 20 chapters or less. It'd take maybe an hour, probably less. And the film will almost certainly be even better than the manga (as season one of the anime was) since ufotable has been excellent in adapting (and improving upon) the manga so far. Yes I'll open a thread in Everyone's A Critic

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
A little early to project Saturday right now. The longer a film is in release, the harder it is to really get an idea of how the day is looking unless you manually go theater to theater and count the reservations. It looks fine from the theaters I've seen, but it'll of course see a decent drop as discussed already.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
As for today, Friday, Doraemon is so weak that it's not even in the top 10 for the day yet. (Just kidding. Well, it's not there, but the program is broken again this morning, so we'll need to wait awhile for the correction.)

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Yeah, the bugs are a little annoying until they're fixed, but also humorous when they're REALLY buggy like right now. Seeing films LOSE admissions, openers not included at all, and seeing films that will be lucky to make the Top 25 is pretty funny.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Demon Slayer Obliterating Record Books
Yeah, it'll probably, in the current state of things, be somewhere around $260/270 million by the end of December (or on December 1st).

@corpse I just looked up Mimorin, and they are listing (みんなdeだんらんシネマ)劇場版「鬼滅の刃」無限列車編 separately every day. But the official gross/admits may be including those.

I'm not sure what you mean, or see? Alo12345 wrote: Friday gross still not yet been corrected in usual locations site Unless it happens with the 2pm update, it probably won't be until 7/8pm. This is definitely one of the biggest bugs I've seen though. Demon Slayer looks good from just checking some various theaters. I've only checked a small sample of locations, but I'd say it looks good for another 15-20% drop, which it has consistently done each day this week so far. Definitely #1 today. Doraemon... not so much. Doraemon looks weak, actually, but I'm not going to dismiss it as a disappointment yet. It's a weekday Friday, it's not suppose to do well today given its audience, but even then, it looks weak. It'll bounce back, or at least it should, over the holiday weekend, but it's going to need a major uptick to reach a satisfactory debut.
